Celebrating Our Bold and Brave Creative Expressions Winners

This year’s Creative Expressions Contest was a resounding success! Thanks to our generous donors, we not only reached our goal of $11,000 but surpassed it! Your contributions will go far in empowering our youth and nurturing their creative spirits.

We showcased 71 entries from youth across 39 GSGC-supported clubs in Southern Africa. From these, 26 talented finalists were handpicked by an international panel of volunteer judges. For the first time, the contest went live on our new CEC2024 e-commerce-style website, a groundbreaking project led by Wendy Burger, GSGC’s Chief Operating Officer. Thanks to your generosity, 604 votes were cast between August 30th and September 30th.

Building a Brighter Future: Launching Our First Club Curriculum!

To enhance sustainability and deepen our impact, GSGC has been supporting clubs and mentors in developing formal curricula, tailored to their needs. This effort began in August when volunteer Denice Harvey visited Victoria Falls to work on an alumnae curriculum with a small group of mentors. This month, we expanded this initiative, gathering all club mentors in Victoria Falls to collaborate on a curriculum set to launch in 2025 across our clubs in Zimbabwe and Zambia. Read more about this exciting development in our latest blog!

International Day of the Girl: A GSGC Talk Radio Round Table Discussion

On Oct. 11, for International Day of the Girl Child, our clubs celebrated with vibrant activities, and our Mentors recorded a special GSGC Talk Radio episode! Host Gloria Mubita led a powerful panel of Mentors to discuss the day’s significance, this year’s theme—"A Girl’s Vision for the Future"—and the vital work of empowering girls to reach their full potential.

A Summer Gathering in Vancouver, WA

With our founder Priscilla Plummer in town and three local supporters just back from Southern Africa, a gathering was in order! On August 18, board members, supporters, and travelers Denice Harvey, Scott Horenstein, and Ralph Doggett met at the office of GSGC Treasurer Heidi Johnson Bixby. Together, we raised nearly $13,000, shared GSGC updates, and heard inspiring reflections from the travelers! "The experiences made me realize the kind of impact the program is having on the kids, and how, as time goes on, the respect they’ve learned for each other will pass through the generations,” Scott said. Sincere thanks to everyone who attended and made this event a success!
