Bug Hotel
Supplies:

  • Milk Jug, soda bottle or juice bottle
  • Scissors
  • 4 popsicle sticks
  • Marker
  • String
  • Tape
  • Talk a walk around your neighborhood and collect any nature that bugs would feel cozy in. A few examples would be pine cones, bark & twigs, moss, wood chips, nut shells, plant roots, rocks, grass, sand or dirt and shells.
To Make:
  1. Rinse out the bottle. With help from an adult, poke a hole in the middle of the milk jug or bottle with the scissors and cut a big opening on one side.
  2. Sort all the things you collected from your walk.
  3. Start building your Bug Hotel by layering the items you have collected. Be creative!
  4. Once your Hotel is stacked full of nature items. Make a welcome sign with the Popsicle sticks. Using several small pieces of tape, tape the four sticks together in a row. Tape a piece of string to the top of both ends of the sign to make a hanger. Flip the sign over and use the side that does not have tape to write your welcome message on the sticks with the marker. Hang the welcome sign over the neck of the bottle.
  5. Find somewhere in your garden or yard to make its home.
  6. Remember to check on it after a few days and see how many guest you have visiting!
