Wicked Good Book Clubs

Midwestern Gothic

Spinetinglers Horror Book Club

The Spinetinglers Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month for discussion of a different horror book.

This month's selection is Midwestern Gothic by Scott Thomas, an anthology of horror novellas set in the Midwest. Close your eyes. Picture open plains, wheat stalks swaying gently in the wind. Picture the quaint Main Street of a one-stoplight town.

Picture endless summers on sunny, tranquil lakes. With three provocative novellas, Kill Creek author and Kansas native Scott Thomas takes a hatchet to the idyllic tropes of the American heartland.

So Witches We Became Book Cover

Teen Books & Boba

Make friends, drink boba, and discuss this month's book: So Witches We Became, by Jill Baguchinsky.

High school senior Nell and her friends visit a private Florida island for spring break, but dark secrets and the island’s tragic past trap them in a deadly curse, with a vengeful mist and a hidden beast.

To survive, Nell must face her trauma and the truth about a life-changing event, while her friends’ own secrets make escape even more dangerous. So Witches We Became is a queer, feminist horror about friendship, survival, and finding power in the shadows of the past.

Parable of the Sower Book Cover

Black Authors' Book Club

Join us for our book club, discussing books by Black authors. We are creating this space for all readers to share & learn about the Black experience, and books that reflect that perspective.

Fifteen-year-old Lauren Olamina lives inside a gated community with her preacher father, family, and neighbors, sheltered from the surrounding social chaos and anarchy caused by climate change and economic crisis. In a society where any vulnerability is a risk, she suffers from hyper empathy—a debilitating sensitivity to others' emotions.

Parable of the Sower offers a startling vision of human destiny.
