Show Your Hydrangeas
Some Love
Hydrangeas are true garden gems. Show them a little extra love this fall for spectacular summer flowers.
Water: give hydrangeas several deep drinks this fall.
Trickle the hose at the base of the plant for 15-30 minutes depending on their size. Leave a trickle on a large Oak Leaf Hydrangea for an hour. Having their roots well hydrated into fall helps them endure the trials of winter.
No Pruning: Do not prune your Macrophylla varieties. These are the old fashion favorites pictured above.
Unless you are confident that you have an Endless Summer variety, you will be pruning off the buds for next spring.
We keep a record of your purchases just so we can help you identify your plants and how to care for them.
Be sure to ask about your hydrangeas next time you visit.
Fertilize: for blue blooms, you need to feed your hydrangeas with a fertilizer for acid loving plants at least 2x a year.
Add a layer of compost: All your shrubs and trees would benefit from a couple of inches of compost spread as your would mulch. We love our Bumper Crop brand that is an all organic blend.
