CRESCENDO NOTES
Special Needs Financial Planning
Well, here in Wisconsin, we would like to say Happy Spring, but it arrives one day, and it is gone the next. Rain rain go away……..
A 529 ABLE Account for Wisconsin?
Support grows for ABLE Age Adjustment:
I have been working very closely with folks in Madison to educate our lawmakers on the importance of considering if Wisconsin could offer their own 5 29 ABLE Savings Account.  Our state is one of 9 states who do NOT offer their own state program. To read the update issued by The ARC Wisconsin, click here on my website. You will then scroll down on my Special Needs Planning Page and click on Update: Expanding Access to ABLE.
More work happening on Capitol Hill to improve the ABLE Act. The  ABLE Age Adjustment Act  (S. 651/H.R. 1814) would amend Section 529A(e) of the Internal Revenue Code to increase the eligibility threshold for ABLE accounts for onset of disability from prior to age 26 to prior to age 46. ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts that are designed to enable individuals with disabilities to save for and pay for qualified disability expenses (QDEs).
Missed the Special Needs Trusts Presentation?
Aging Parents - a Webinar to learn about how I did it!
Those of you who were not able to attend my March webinar titled: Special Needs Trusts from creation to funding to management.  I conducted this with Sumeeta Krishnaney , Attorney at Law from Petrie and Pettit. Click here to view the link to the webinar replay. This page on our website has all the webinars that Crescendo has conducted, scroll down to click on the link for this presentation.
I have said before that I am fortunate to be a part of a team of advisors here at Crescendo. In April, we conducted a Webinar titled: Aging Parents, We Did It So Can you.  I wrote about my journey of being a caregiver for my parents as my father was diagnosed and lived with dementia. He passed away in February 2017. The role I played in helping my parents starting back in 2010 to insure that they were taken care of had a tremendous impact on me, and helped me to better shape my practice and how I serve my clients as a Financial Advisor.
Supported Living

I have written often about the challenge’s families face in finding options for their adult children with disabilities to live outside of their home with supports and assistance. You can read my past newsletters by clicking here and here to learn about this very important topic. I am excited to share that Best Buddies International is introducing their Living Division of their organization.  The Best Buddies Living program represents one of the organization’s four key mission pillars, Inclusive Living. This program fosters an integrated experience for people with and without IDD to become active, contributing citizens who live independently in a dynamic environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.

The Best Buddies Living program encourages people with and without IDD to live together in a vibrant community that is focused on supporting all residents in accomplishing their life goals and dreams.

Making an Impact:
I just returned from chaperoning my daughter Lily’s 7th Grade Class to the Annual Trip to Washington DC. We spent four days touring as many museums, monuments, and memorials as we could during our trip. It was an amazing experience to visit our Nation’s Capitol as an Adult. I had never visited DC in this way, during my Junior year of College, I spent a week in Washington on a service trip working with the homeless. I made sure to be at the front of the line to listen to everything the Tour Guide had to say. A few of the highlights of our trip included a tour of Capitol Hill to see where Bills are made, the Holocaust Memorial, as well as a a few of the Smithsonians. Thought I would share a few pictures of my Lily. I am excited to see what the future holds for all three of my girls, and how having a sister with special needs will impact the choices they make in the future.
