FROM YOUR DIRECTOR

Beth Wentz,

Executive Director

Autumn is a wonderful season to those who love to stand amazed at the beauty of creation. Many farmers are busy with their work as the seeds they patiently planted in spring have produced a sea of golden stalks filled with corn and soy beans ready to be plucked. Pumpkins of various shapes and sizes are changing from their green youthfulness to the bright orange of maturity. The trees’ leaves are morphing from their dark green hue to the vibrant dazzling colors of red, yellow and orange.

As we face the seasons of our lives, we are left with choices of how we will experience the changes. Will we do so with gusto and enthusiasm or an attitude of frustration and even depression? Will we celebrate what we have or pine away our time moaning about what we don’t have? Will we embrace the bold and the beautiful or settle for the trivial and tattered?

As you take in all the changes of autumn, don’t forget to take the time to gaze at the beauty in the autumn of lives around you. Their lives will touch you deeply, move you greatly, and inspire you profoundly.

ROAD TRIPPIN'

Georgia

This month we are on the road to Georgia. Georgia is often called the Empire State of the South and is also known as the Peach State and Cracker State. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi River. The annual Masters’ Golf Tournament is played at the Augusta National in Augusta every first week of April. Georgia is the nation’s number one producer of the three Ps–peanuts, pecans, and peaches. The oldest portable steam engine in the United States is on display at Historic Railroad Shops in Savannah. LOOKING BACK

September 2022

Crestwood Village North had a month full of fun events. The Mens Club enjoyed music by John Kirby. Meanwhile the ladies had a style show modeling their own clothing at Ladies Tea. Residents from Building 2 had a great day-trip to Edinburgh Outlet Mall where they shopped till they dropped! They enjoyed an amazing lunch at Montana Mike's, fueled up for more shopping and then treated themselves to ice cream on the way home.

Speaking of ice cream, Pawpaw's Ice Cream Truck came to deliver some sweet treats and will return for one last time this year on October 4.

The Chess Club held some great matches of skill each week. It was fun to watch them use their brain power to out maneuver their opponent! The Chess Club is open to all residents at Crestwood North and they meet weekly in the Suites library. See Clay Rembert in Building 2 or your RSC to inquire about joining the group.

Tell us about your family and/or pet(s)

I am the oldest with 4 sisters and 2 brothers. At age 14 I entered the Passionist Monastery in 1962 for 3 years, then left at the age of 17 and attended Brebeuf Preparatory School. I attended Marion College and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Sociology with a minor in Theology. I met my wife, Connye at college and got married in 1970. We have two children, Roger Jr and Tiffany.

What's the most interesting or unusual thing about you?

My first job was with the Indiana Urban League and I was featured with Senator Mondale working with school segregation issues. I was recruited to a Masters Program at Western Michigan and worked in the Urban League training children on segregation issues.

If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?

Be kind to all and pursue your dreams.
