“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” — Harry Truman.
If there is only one word to describe a military veteran, it would be sacrifice. May the flag wave boldly with its vibrant hues…honoring veterans like you, with the beautiful red, white and blue! There will never be enough ways to say Thank You! All Veteran’s and spouses, please stop by your RSC to receive a sweet treat.
FROM YOUR DIRECTOR
Beth Wentz,
Executive Director
It's that time of year again, Thanksgiving! I look forward to it every year because I love hosting my family and preparing a feast for them. Have you ever played Five Corn? It is fun activity to turn the focus from food to thanksgiving & gratitude. Too often I'm busy and miss the wonderful things right in front of me. I was reminded of this today driving to work. The sunrise was stunning and I almost missed it because I was preoccupied. You can find the positive in all situations if you look for it. We should give thanks for the negative situations in life because they often cause us to grow. There are days when I have personal challenges or obstacles in life. When I have those days, I remind myself that I should be grateful for those challenges because they have made me the strong person that I am today. When I focus on the positive, I find it hard to complain about the little things. Reminding myself of everything I am grateful for, it reminds me to thank others. During this holiday season I challenge you to tell someone why you are grateful for them. Happy Thanksgiving!

ROAD TRIPPIN'
Nebraska
This month we are on the road to Nebraska. Nebraska was the first state to complete its segment of the nation’s mainline interstate system, a 455 mile stretch of four lane highway. The 911 system of emergency communications, now used nationwide, was developed and first used in Lincoln, Nebraska. Weeping Water is the nation’s largest limestone deposit and producer. The state nickname used to be the “Tree Planter’s State”, but was changed in 1945 to the “Cornhusker State”. Nebraska has more underground water reserves than any other state in the continental U.S. Spam (canned meat) is produced in Fremont.

LOOKING BACK
October 2022
Crestwood North hosted their Annual Fall Fundraiser with a Progressive Dinner/Theatre. Residents enjoyed a short performance starting out in Paris and enjoyed delicious appetizers on charcuterie boards. They progressed over to Italy to watch a short play including grape stomping by Lucille Ball while feasting on chicken alfredo or lasagna. They ended their trip in Montana for fun entertainment and delicious desserts! We raised close to $700 for Habitat to Humanity. We thank our residents who donated and participated in the event to help make it a huge success!
Residents at Crestwood North enjoyed the end of year trishaw rides on a brisk October day down the Monon Trail by volunteers from Cycling Without Age. CWAGI is wonderful organization fully-staffed and outfitted by volunteers who provide rides to our residents so they can have fun and get outdoors.
This past month, we also had a great turn out for the Fitness Center Open House. Residents got to meet Jackie, the new Fitness Center Coordinator, and also got to learn about the fitness equipment that is in each building.
The walking club also finished out the walking season out at Southeastway Park. Residents enjoyed a fun hayride, pizza, smores, and even singing campfire songs. Join us for the next fun adventure.

DEEP BREATHING CAN REDUCE STRESS
Even without formal meditation and controlled breathing, the gentle muscle stretching of yoga can reduce stress. "Full service" yoga is even better. But if that's not your thing, simple breathing exercises can help by themselves. Rapid, shallow, erratic breathing is a common response to stress. Slow, deep, regular breathing is a sign of relaxation. You can learn to control your respirations so they mimic relaxation; the effect, in fact, will be relaxing.
Breathe in slowly and deeply, pushing your stomach out so that your diaphragm is put to maximal use.
Hold your breath briefly.
Exhale slowly, thinking "relax."
Repeat the entire sequence 5 to 10 times, concentrating on breathing deeply and slowly.
Deep breathing is easy to learn. You can do it at any time, in any place. You can use deep breathing to help dissipate stress as it occurs. Practice the routine in advance; then use it when you need it most. If you find it helpful, consider repeating the exercise four to six times a day — even on good days.
