FROM YOUR DIRECTOR

JEAN2.jpg

JEAN RENFORTH,

Executive Director

September is seen by many to be a very pleasant time of the year. For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the weather is finally starting to let up, with cooler nights chasing away the heat of the day. September is the time to finish the year’s harvest and celebrate its bounty. September is of course also a great time of the year in the southern hemisphere! Gone are the dark days of winter, this month is a great time to get outside and appreciate the first flowers of spring!

Like every other month of the year, September has plenty to show for itself. I would like to encourage you to attend the community events that are held for our valued residents each month. It is a great way for you to make new friends or continue to enjoy time with you existing friends.

COMMUNITY NEWS

ROAD TRIPPIN'

This month we are on the road to Colorado. Colorado is the only state in history, to turn down the Olympics. In 1976 the Winter Olympics were planned to be held in Denver. Denver lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger. The trademark for the name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast. The World’s First Rodeo was held on July 4th, 1869 in Deer Trail. Colorado has the highest mean altitude of all the states. Colorado’s southwest corner borders Arizona, New Mexico and Utah the only place in America where the corners of four states meet.

LOOKING BACK

August 2022

We held our Fall Prevention on August 9 and we had a tremendous turn out. Our residents learned ways to help prevent falling. This was presented by: Heathcrest, HTS, Senior Helpers and Best Choice.

Both Crestwood communities came together and had a fun night at the Under the Stars Dinner Dance hosted at Crestwood Village South. Residents and guest enjoyed wonderful food, dancing and music

The ladies got to make their very own flower bouquet at Ladies Tea. They got to choose many different beautiful flowers from Caralee’s wonderful garden!

FDA Finalizes Historic Rule Enabling Access to Over-the-Counter Hearing Aids for Millions of Americans

More Affordable Hearing Aids Could Be in Stores as Soon as Mid-October.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a final rule to improve access to hearing aids which may in turn lower costs for millions of Americans. This action establishes a new category of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids, enabling consumers with perceived mild to moderate hearing impairment to purchase hearing aids directly from stores or online retailers without the need for a medical exam, prescription or a fitting adjustment by an audiologist. Read more

BENEFITS OF A SOCIAL WALKING GROUP

Here are five good reasons:

1. Walking in a group gives off positive energy and helps seniors feel good all over.

2. You have other people to hold you accountable while making the experience more enjoyable.

3. Walking is one of the best exercises people can do! It's free, easy and no equipment is necessary. You can walk any time and go many places.

4. People who have lived the longest and are the world's happiest people have been known to exercise and socialize with others up to seven hours daily.

5. If want to decrease loneliness, reduce depression and your risk of dying earlier, join a social walking group or club like the one we have at Crestwood Village. We also go on trips to different locations in the summer months and stop on the way home for eats and treats!

Check out your fitness calendars to see when these fun walking groups meet. We would love to have you join us!
