Exciting Update on the Building Blocks Mini Grant Program
Cribs for Kids is proud to announce the recipients of the Safe Sleep Building Blocks Grant Program, a nationwide initiative that provides essential safe sleep products and education to organizations committed to reducing sleep-related infant deaths. In partnership with the Baby Safety Foundation (formerly JPMA Cares) and Safe Kids Worldwide, this program has awarded grants to 40 outstanding organizations across the country, who are now equipped to expand their efforts in promoting safe sleep practices.
This year’s recipients will receive Safe Sleep Survival Kits, which include the Cribette play yard, Snoozzzette wearable blanket, and other essential safe sleep products, along with educational materials that help spread awareness and prevent suffocation-related incidents. Each awarded organization will also receive community outreach support, including Cribs for Kids’ educational resources and a Safe Sleep Building Blocks electronic badge to proudly display on their websites and marketing materials.
Through the Building Blocks Grant Program, Cribs for Kids, Baby Safety Foundation, and Safe Kids Worldwide are working together to ensure families in underserved communities have the tools and knowledge they need to keep their babies safe. This grant program continues to expand the reach of our collective safe sleep initiatives, and we’re thrilled to see these efforts grow.
We are grateful for the ongoing support of our partners and look forward to the impact these organizations will have on improving infant sleep safety across the country. With the help of these 40 recipients, we continue to move closer to our goal of preventing sleep-related deaths and ensuring all babies have a safe place to sleep.

Get Ready for #SafeSleepStorytime: Share Your Story This October
October is Safe Sleep Awareness Month, and Cribs for Kids is launching the #SafeSleepStorytime campaign to raise awareness about the importance of safe sleep practices. We're asking you to share your personal story and help educate others on how we can prevent sleep-related infant deaths.
The stories we share are powerful tools for education. Whether you're a parent, healthcare professional, community leader, or loss parent, your experiences can make a difference. Personal stories have the ability to connect with others on a deeper level, inspiring them to adopt safe sleep practices that can ultimately save lives.
Our toolkit is now available at cribsforkids.org, and it’s packed with everything you need to participate. We encourage you to begin preparing your video story now. It’s easy, and we’ve made it simple for you to get involved. Whether your story is personal or professional, it matters. In your video, tell us about your journey with safe sleep, whether you’ve experienced a scare with unsafe sleep, you’ve lost a child, or you’re an advocate spreading awareness about the importance of safe sleep. Your story could be the turning point for someone else, helping them keep their baby safe.
Remember, you don’t need to post your video until October, but preparing now means you’ll be ready to share your story with the world when Safe Sleep Awareness Month kicks off. Visit the Safe Sleep Storytime Toolkit on cribsforkids.org for everything you need to know about participating. Together, we can educate families everywhere and make every baby’s sleep safer.

Introducing the Professional Training Series: New Additions to Our Safe Sleep Ambassador Training
We are thrilled to announce the addition of the Professional Training Modules to our Safe Sleep Ambassador training. These new modules are designed to provide professionals with the in-depth knowledge and tools they need to effectively promote safe sleep practices within their communities.
This expanded training is perfect for those who play a vital role in supporting families with infants. As part of the Safe Sleep Ambassador initiative, these modules will focus on specific areas of safe sleep education and prevention strategies that can be implemented in various professional settings.
The first module, focusing on Child Welfare, is already available. Future modules will cover key groups such as childcare workers, home visiting nurses, and first responders, providing them with critical information to better educate families and prevent sleep-related deaths.
Upon completing each module, professionals will earn a Safe Sleep Ambassador Badge and a certificate of completion, recognizing their commitment to safe sleep education. This certification is a valuable addition to staff training programs and will help professionals feel confident in their ability to advocate for safe sleep in their roles.
With each new module, we continue to build a network of professionals who are dedicated to spreading safe sleep awareness and ensuring every baby has the opportunity to sleep safely.

Spotlight on Our Summer Intern, Taniya Griffin: Redesigning Tools to Strengthen Safe Sleep Education
We’re thrilled to share the incredible work of Taniya Griffin, a rising senior at Xavier University of Louisiana, who joined us this summer as part of the University of Pittsburgh’s Public Health Undergraduate Scholars Program. Taniya worked closely with our Program and Outreach Manager, Spencer Poston, MSc, (pictured above with Tanya) on a key project that will significantly enhance how we track and share safe sleep education.
Her project, From Form to Function: Redesigning a Data Tracking Tool to Strengthen Safe Infant Sleep Education, involved redesigning the yellow cards that mothers and caregivers fill out when receiving a crib. This tool will streamline how we collect and use data, allowing us to better monitor the effectiveness of our educational outreach and continue improving safe sleep practices for families across the country.
Taniya presented her work in a poster session at the University Club at Pitt this week, showcasing the impact of her redesign and the potential it has for improving our safe sleep efforts. We are proud of the work she has accomplished and grateful for her contributions to our mission.
Thank you, Taniya, for joining us in our mission to help every baby sleep safer!
