Safe Sleep Storytime: Sharing Stories, Building Awareness

This Safe Sleep Awareness Month, Cribs for Kids launched the first-ever Safe Sleep Storytime campaign, inviting hospitals, parents, and partner organizations to share real stories and advice about infant safe sleep.

Across social media, participants offered heartfelt reflections, practical tips, and messages that reminded families how small steps can make a big difference. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their #SafeSleepStorytime, and to Alexandria Bowerman of Derrick Stone Safe Sleep and Shayna Raphael of the Claire Bear Foundation for helping us bring the campaign to life.

We also extend our appreciation to our weekly sponsors, Safe Infant Sleep, Baby Safety Alliance, Baby Safety Foundation, and Safe Kids Worldwide, for their partnership and support in sharing the safe sleep message.

As a first-year effort, Safe Sleep Storytime laid the groundwork for what we hope will become an annual tradition of storytelling, education, and connection during Safe Sleep Awareness Month. We’re excited to see how it grows in the years ahead.

The National Cribs for Kids Conference Returns In Person in 2026

After several years of connecting virtually, Cribs for Kids is bringing the 9th National Cribs for Kids Conference back in person to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from September 29 to October 2, 2026. The decision reflects a shared desire among safe sleep professionals, researchers, and advocates to come together again face to face to exchange ideas, celebrate progress, and strengthen partnerships dedicated to preventing sleep-related infant deaths.

The National Conference has long served as a cornerstone of Cribs for Kids’ mission, offering education, innovation, and collaboration opportunities to those working to help every baby sleep safer. The return to an in-person format will provide attendees with the same high-quality content and expert insight they’ve come to expect, along with the added value of networking, connection, and renewed energy that only gathering together can bring.

Registration details will be announced in 2026.

Dr. Michael Goodstein Honored with ISPID Health Educator Award

This month, Michael Goodstein, MD, FAAP, was recognized internationally for his leadership in infant safe sleep with the Health Educator Award from the International Society for the Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID). The award honors senior educators who have made significant contributions to SUID and stillbirth prevention through education, research, and outreach.

As Medical Director of Research for Cribs for Kids and a long-serving member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Goodstein has played a vital role in advancing safe sleep education and practice across the country. His research and program development have helped bridge the gap between hospital policy and family practice, ensuring safe sleep messages reach every community.

Dr. Goodstein was instrumental in designing and expanding our National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program and our Safe Sleep Ambassador Program, and he has chaired several National Cribs for Kids Conferences. He joins Cribs for Kids Founder and CEO Judy Bannon, who received the ISPID Health Educator Award in 2014. Together, their leadership continues to shape a safer future for infants everywhere.

Supporting Military Families Through Safe Sleep Education

This month, Spencer Gentille, Program and Products Coordinator at Cribs for Kids, joined Helping Heroes for a special military baby shower dedicated to supporting service members and their families as they prepare to welcome new babies. The event provided an opportunity to share safe sleep education and resources with expectant parents, helping them create safe environments for their baby from day one.

Cribs for Kids is deeply grateful to Susan Elder and the entire Helping Heroes team for their partnership in bringing this collaboration to life. Through community events like these, we can reach families where they are, offering education, connection, and the tools they need to ensure every baby sleeps safely.
