Wrapping Up Safe Sleep Awareness Month on a High Note

As we approach the end of another impactful Safe Sleep Awareness Month, we’re incredibly proud of our network of partners who have worked tirelessly to spread the safe sleep message across communities nationwide. From hospitals and health departments to community organizations and advocates, each partner’s commitment to this mission has helped save lives and educate families on the importance of safe sleep practices.

There’s still time to join the effort! The Clear the Crib Challenge is ongoing, and we encourage our partners to take part and continue raising awareness in your communities. Thank you to everyone who has worked hard this month to reach families and promote safe sleep. Let’s keep this progress going forward, making safe sleep a priority every day of the year.

October Safe Sleep Champions Webinar Recap

Earlier this month, Cribs for Kids Chief Programs Officer Devon George MSN, RN, and Chief Operating Officer Bridget Gaussa hosted our latest Safe Sleep Champions Webinar, shining a spotlight on groundbreaking state and national efforts in safe sleep education. Our featured speakers were Ed Guidry, Director of the Bureau of Child Fatality Review and Prevention in New York, and Courtney Griffin, Director of Consumer Product Safety for the Consumer Federation of America.

Ed shared New York State’s innovative approach to maternal and infant health, including Governor Kathy Hochul’s new six-point plan, which begins in 2025. With a holistic view of maternal and infant health, New York’s initiatives support families from prenatal care through safe sleep education, focusing on reducing SUID by promoting awareness and crib distribution statewide.

Courtney discussed her critical work in consumer product safety advocacy. Leading the charge at the Consumer Federation of America, she highlighted her ongoing work in ensuring safety regulations support families, raising awareness about unsafe products, and providing educational resources for caregivers.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. To keep this conversation going, join us at the next quarterly Safe Sleep Champions Webinar on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 12 PM – 1 PM ET. We look forward to hosting more impactful discussions in the new year.
