Cameras snap man in 3 hold-ups;
tipster provides suspect’s identity
It happened at a Family Dollar store on Getwell Road January 22, 2026. A man came into the business, went around the counter and grabbed money from the cash register. As he did so he threatened to shoot the clerk if she moved.
The incident was caught on the store’s camera. Photos were released to the news media and on social media platforms.
Eight days went by. Then CrimeStoppers got a tip which identified the man in the photos as Jonathan Boyce. To make sure, police held a photo lineup and Boyce was positively identified that way as well.
It happened that within two days of the incident a man wearing the same jacket and looking like Boyce was on camera in two other robberies. A warrant was issued for Boyce in all three.
Police later found Boyce, arrested him and charged him with robbery and aggravated robbery (for the use of a weapon).
Boyce has a long history of charges, including arson, aggravated burglary, theft, fabricating evidence, other robberies, aggravated assault and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
In this case bond was set at $100,000 and the suspect seems likely to face spending many more years in prison. Awarded to the tipster: $700.
Shelby Farms 10K to celebrate
10,000 criminal record expungements
It's a celebration of clean slates and second chances.
It's a thank-you to friends, partners and sponsors.
It's a race for runners.
Erase, Elevate and Run is a 10K (and 1-mile) run to be held at Shelby Farms the morning of Saturday, March 28, 2026 and the hosts – the Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk's Office and CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County - want you to be there to help celebrate reaching 10,000 local felony record expungements.
The Criminal Court Clerk's Office has offered dozens of clinics to qualified individuals the last several years, leading up to the 10,000 milestone.
“Our priority was to make sure people had a second chance,” said Criminal Clerk Heidi Kugh. “We started the clinics and and we decided to take them into the community so people didn't have to come to 201 Poplar,” she added.
“In our work every day we see the underside of what criminal activity does to individuals, families and the community,” said David Wayne Brown, executive director of CrimeStoppers. “It's important to know that individuals with criminal charges can through hard work transform their lives and find their way back from the effects of having a felony record.”
The expungement clinics show individuals how to overcome barriers to a better future and have the second chance they need. The Erase, Elevate & Run 10K is a first-of-its-kind race to recognize the transformation of lives, and to build more awareness in the community about the importance of a clean record.
