News and offers direct from The Crinan Hotel in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland

News from Crinan
Spring seems to be starting really early this year.  As usual for early February the snowdrops are out all around the village and there are even daffodils and crocuses starting to appear as well - but a chilly spell could yet slow all that down!

The hotel is now fully open after a short winter break so now our guests can once again enjoy the Argyll scenery and the fresh seaside air.

Art and Music weekend to mark 50 years at the Crinan Hotel ...

The end of February 2020 sees the 50th anniversary of Frances Ryan's arrival at the Crinan Hotel.  A special art and music weekend will take place over the weekend 6th-8th March to mark this.

Guy Peploe, grandson of S.J. Peploe, has a unique insight into the works of the Scottish Colourists. He grew up with both a grandfather and father who were successful painters, so there might have been an expectation for him to become an artistic marvel himself.  However, he says that he "can't paint for toffee" and has a "distinct lack of imagination" so Guy decided to take a different role in the art world and now helps to put on wonderful exhibitions at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.  He also spends time encouraging young artists, writing books and talking about the Scottish Colourists and Scottish art.  He will be resident at Crinan for the Art & Music weekend to share his knowledge about both contemporary and older Scottish art.

Martin Treacher (pianist, accordionist, piper) is a versatile musical entertainer who will join Frances Macdonald (aka Frances Ryan) to host another of the Crinan Hotel's popular Art and Music Weekends.

Since 2005 Martin has been full-time resident musical entertainer for the Carnegie Club at Skibo Castle in the Scottish Highlands, acknowledged as one of the world's finest clubs/hotels.

There will be a variety of musical entertainment over the course of the weekend from both Martin and Frances Ryan's daughter Julia who is an accomplished singer.

Frances will give a painting demonstration and will be ready to answer questions about her work and offer tips to budding or aspiring artists.

This weekend is sure to be busy so book soon to make sure you can join us.

At other times, Frances will be pleased to welcome visitors to her studio to see her at work if this is booked in advance.
