The 2024 Community Engagement Grants (CEG) application cycle is open! Bronx-based artists, collectives, and arts organizations have the opportunity to apply for Arts FundCommunity Arts, and New Work for a total of up to $10,000 in grants.

BRONX DANCE FUND (BDF)

The Bronx Dance Fund (BDF) supports Bronx-based dancers, choreographers, and dance organizations with budgets under $250,000 through grants of up to $7,500 for general operating or project-based support.

Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) provides awards of up to $5,000 to individual Bronx artists who create works in literary, media, visual, or performing arts.

BRONX MEMOIR PROJECT (BMP)

Join us for the final 90 Pages and Beyond workshop on Saturday, September 30th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Creating a Narrative Arc explores shaping one’s life story into a coherent timeline, marking the highs and lows into a compelling story of growth and self-discovery that will relate to or resonate with readers.


And SAVE THE DATE! The next BMP workshop series, Memoir in Verse led by Advocate of Wordz, begins Tuesday, October 17th.

The Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture, in partnership with BCA, presents Camino a Mictlán (Road to Mictlán), an exhibition celebrating one of the most important traditions in Mexican culture.


Join us next week for the free Opening Reception of this vibrant show on Wednesday, October 4th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos. Through authentic altars, grand sculptures, and mesmerizing masks, the exhibition provides an opportunity to celebrate the art of remembering those who have gone before us.

ARTIST SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP SERIES (ASWS)

The Artist Sustainability Workshop Series (ASWS) is back with the first out of three workshops starting on Wednesday, October 11th from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM


There are more ways than ever to raise funds today. From local to national, private to public, and individual to crowdsourced,The Philanthropic Universe will be a brief overview of how funding sources differ, where to find them, and best ways to cultivate and approach them. Plus some tips on telling your story and communicating your value, no matter which source you approach.

OCTOBER 27TH: FOREIGN PUZZLE FILM SCREENING AND Q&A

LONGWOOD ART GALLERY @ HOSTOS

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BCA, in partnership with Real Talkies, presents a FREE screening of Foreign Puzzle at the Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos on Friday, October 27th from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.


Foreign Puzzle is an award-winning documentary about an inspiring Mexican-American dancer who communicates the impermanence of life through dance while juggling the roles of a recently divorced parent of a 6-year-old, a choreographer, and a primary school teacher amidst intensive treatments for breast cancer. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's protagonist Sharon Marroquín and director Chithra Jeyaram.


Foreign Puzzle is not rated by the MPA and is not suitable for young children.

Consider joining a growing immigrant artist community by applying to be part of the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. The deadline to apply is Friday, October 6th at 11:59 PM. ⁠

BECOME A GRANTS PANELIST

BCA 2024 GRANT CYCLE

BCA is seeking artists, arts professionals, and nonprofit and community leaders to serve as panelists for our 2024 and future grant cycles.


Grants panelists review and score applications, provide invaluable panelist comments, and recommend recipients for funding. They play a key role in the grants process, and their knowledge and expertise are crucial in shaping the way funds are distributed. Potential panelists from all boroughs are welcome to apply, as BCA’s different grant programs require panelists from in and outside of the Bronx. BCA supports panel diversity in all forms: age, race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, artistic discipline, location, etc.


Selected panelists will be contacted during grant season (fall/winter). All panelists will receive a modest fee.

2023 ARTS FUND GRANTEES

"Celebrating Puerto Rican Culture, Heritage, and History Cycle"

"1.5 Million"

In response to the social, political, and civil unrest and energy crisis in Puerto Rico, the "Celebrating Puerto Rican Culture, Heritage, and History Cycle" provides space for the Puerto Rican community to come together and celebrate its heritage and traditions. Through activities that showcase Puerto Rican traditional dance, music, and more, the goal is to empower the community to adapt and cope with the challenges of living in exile. "1.5 Million" is a feature-length documentary that explores the political and economic forces that led to a literary crisis in The Bronx. Filmed over four years, the film features The Bronx from 1997 when the borough had only two bookstores, to 2019 when there were none, and further examines the changes in the borough since then.
