Snow Day

Cordele recently experienced a breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime weather event—a record-breaking 9 inches of snow blanketed the city, transforming it into a stunning winter wonderland.

Families took full advantage of the rare snowfall, building snowmen, enjoying snowball fights, and documenting the moment with countless photos. "It felt like a dream," shared one local resident. "This is something we’ll remember forever."

For Cordele, this historic snowfall will remain a cherished memory, a reminder of nature’s ability to surprise and delight in the most unexpected ways.

Quick Tips to Save Electricity

As freezing temperatures gripped the South, energy demand soared. Here are a few simple ways to conserve electricity and stay warm:

1. Lower Your Thermostat 🌡️

Drop it a few degrees and use a programmable thermostat to adjust temperatures automatically.

2. Seal Drafts 🏠

Use weatherstripping or caulk on windows and doors to keep out cold air. Cover windows with insulating curtains.

3. Let the Sun Help 🌞

Open curtains during the day to let in sunlight and close them at night to keep warmth in.

4. Focus Heating ☀️

Close vents and doors in unused rooms. Heat only the spaces you’re using.

5. Use Space Heaters Wisely 🔌

Choose energy-efficient models and heat specific areas only when needed.

6. Bundle Up 🧤

Wear layers and use blankets to stay warm instead of raising the thermostat.

8. Switch to LEDs 💡

LED bulbs use less energy and last longer. Swap out high-use bulbs.

9. Unplug Devices 🔐

Unplug electronics and chargers when not in use to reduce energy waste.

10. Stay Updated 📢

Follow updates from local utilities for tips and incentives to save energy.

Stay warm and energy-efficient this winter! ❄️☀️

2025 Rate Adjustments

The Crisp County Power Commission (CCPC) is unwavering in its commitment to delivering reliable and affordable energy to our community. However, due to persistent economic pressures and regulatory demands, we will implement a significant rate adjustment starting January 1, 2025. This decision, though difficult, was not made lightly but reflects the need to address significant challenges while ensuring the sustainability of our energy infrastructure and we want to assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to minimize the impact on their energy bills. The rate adjustment is driven by several significant factors outlined on our website.

The Crisp County Power Commission has proudly served the community since its founding in 1930, providing cost-effective energy solutions while supporting economic growth and environmental stewardship. We also recognize that this adjustment affects our customers, and we’ve worked tirelessly to minimize the increase. This decision was made with the utmost care, and only after exhausting all other options. Our focus remains on providing reliable service at the lowest possible cost, and we are confident that this adjustment is necessary to sustain our operations and meet future demands.

We appreciate your understanding, trust, and support as we continue to work on behalf of Crisp County to sustain and strengthen our energy infrastructure and deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy solutions.

Available Billing Programs

We offer several billing programs designed to help you manage your electricity costs more effectively. These programs are available at no extra charge, and we encourage you to take advantage of the options that best suit your needs.

  • PREPAY METERING

Prepay metering allows qualified residential customers to pay for electricity in advance, much like filling up your car with gasoline. This gives you more control over your energy usage and payment schedule.

  • E-BILLING

Ditch the paper! Sign up for e-billing and receive an email notification when your bill is ready to view online, helping you save on paper and keep your billing process digital and eco-friendly.

  • SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT

If you're 65 years of age or older and have a household income of $22,347 per year or less, you may qualify for a discount on your monthly electric bill. This program is designed to provide additional savings for senior citizens.

  • LEVELIZED BILLING

Make budgeting easier with levelized billing, where you pay a fixed average amount each month. This ensures your bill remains consistent, helping you avoid seasonal spikes and better manage your budget.

CCR Rule Compliance

In response to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) rules and regulations the Power Commission continues work to close its ash pond which had been used to dispose of coal ash from the coal-fired steam plant. The ash pond was historically used sporadically as the Plant Crisp boiler is a dual-fuel (coal and/or natural gas) boiler. For economic reasons, Plant Crisp was primarily operated using natural gas. The Power Commission ceased use of coal at Plant Crisp and has no remaining coal at the site. Plant Crisp repeatedly meets all air quality requirements dictated by federal and state regulations.

The project is nearing completion. The EPD has approved all permits and the final inspection on the grass growth is scheduled for early February.

Costs to date of this project are just over $14 million.

Pateville Substation Construction

Construction at our new Pateville Substation continues. Underground and copper work is complete as well as the grading work. The base layer of gravel has been installed. Crews are currently installing switches, breakers, and bus work.

This substation will help with load distribution and power quality in the Cedar Creek Industrial Park area.

Cordele Lion's Club Christmas Parade

The Power Commission's staff had a lot of fun being a part of the annual Cordele Lion's Club Christmas Parade! A special thank you to all those who participated and helped make the 2024 parade the success it was.

Reminder - Ag Customer Sales Tax Exemption Annual Renewal

In April 2012, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill (HB) 386 into law. Under this new law, customers that meet the definition of qualified agricultural producers are eligible for an exemption from sales and use tax on energy used in agriculture. The law became effective January 1, 2013.

To qualify for the tax exemption, you must first apply to the Department of Agriculture for a tax exemption certificate - GATE (Georgia Agricultural Tax Exemption). The Georgia Department of Agriculture can be reached at 1-855-FARM-TAX or at http://agr.georgia.gov.

The Crisp County Power Commission must receive a copy of the GATE certificate provided to you by the Department of Agriculture along with a signed listing of your Power Commission account numbers and service addresses for energy that qualifies for this exemption. Exemption documents may be submitted in the following manners:

  • E-mail: Becky Morris, bmorris@crispcountypower.com
  • Mail: Crisp County Power Commission, PO Box 1218, Cordele, GA 31010
  • Fax: 229-273-3824

Or, you may bring them by our Business Office at 202 S 7th Street in Cordele.

GATE certificates expire on December 31st and must be renewed annually. Therefore, if you have previously received a GATE certificate then you must re-apply for the following calendar year.

The Power Commission can NOT exempt any account from sales tax without our having all required documents on file prior to generating an electric bill.

The Crisp County Power Commission does not provide tax or legal advice. You should contact the Georgia Department of Agriculture to determine whether you are eligible for this tax exemption. If you qualify, your exemption will begin on your next billing statement after we receive your certificate and your signed listing of eligible Power Commission account numbers and service addresses.

If you have questions or if we may be of any assistance please call one of our Customer Service Representatives at 229-273-3811.
