October 2026

From The Directors Desk

Dear Woodbury,

Just like that September is wrapping up and the Fall season is here. I know I have appreciated the temperature dropping so it’s not so hot every time I go outside, though I could do without all of this rain we have been getting every weekend. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to the season and we are excited to share what we have been working on.

October for me is synonymous with Halloween, and that means it’s almost time for Trunk or Treat! This is a great event for our kids, and it really depends upon our community to make it as fun and festive as possible. In that regard, we are still accepting applications to participate as a trunk. If you are interested, please complete the application that can be found on our website and submit it to our office. You can also support the event by donating candy to any of the monster boxes that we will be placing in different town offices.

Now that Fall is here, it is a prime opportunity to spend some time walking the trails of our parks and taking in the beauty of the trees as the leaves change. I know at this time of year I personally love to hike up the trails at Orenaug Park and take in the view on a crisp sunny day. I hope you all use this month to take advantage of the good weather days and the sunlight before the weather turns cold and the days become short.

We have some great programs getting started this month, and we have evaluations for travel basketball coming up in early October. Please read through what we have to offer in this newsletter and make sure to sign up for what sounds fun before it is too late!

Sincerely,

Graham Musson

Around the Mahjong Table

American Mahjong for Beginners ~ Mahjong originated in China in the 1800s and became part of American social life in the early 1900s. More than a century later, people are rediscovering what has always made it special. It’s a game with a little strategy, a little luck and a lot of time spent together around the table.

Part of what keeps American Mahjong interesting is that the game never stays exactly the same. The National Mah Jongg League releases a new card of winning hands each year, giving even experienced players something new to learn.

Our first beginner Mahjong class was offered just over a year ago, and since then, interest has continued to grow. Our monthly classes have been filling up, and we’ve added even more classes to give more people a chance to learn.

Registration is open for our November and December beginner classes, and we’ve added something new this fall, too! Our Saturday Mahjong Boot Camp gives beginners the chance to learn the basics in one day.

So No One Walks Alone

We were disappointed that the weather forced us to cancel our first Glow Walk for Hope in recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, but we were so encouraged by the support this new event received.

Thank you to Wellmore Behavioral Health, our event supporters, and everyone who registered and planned to walk with us.

Glow walk for Hope will return next September, and we look forward to growing it each year as our community comes together in support of hope, connection and suicide prevention, so now one walks alone.

Thank you.
