Incarceration! A tough word about a tough place. Prison. People in cell blocks. The important question, what intervention could guide men and women toward building a positive life both in prison and when their time in prison was done? How does one help people create a different future?

At Sing Sing prison in Ossining, New York, Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prisons was born in 1998 assisted by the National Alliance for Higher Education in Prisons. State and federal funding for college education in prisons was no longer available. This time support would come only from private funding. Hudson Link would be managed by and for people who were or had been incarcerated. The strategic plan would involve partnerships with local colleges for Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees. Professors connected with these institutions would teach the classes. Remedial classes were also developed.
