2020 William E. Simon Prize Recipient
We are so privileged to share that Cristo Rey San José co-founder John Sobrato and his wife Sue have been honored as 2020 recipients of the William E. Simon Prize for Philanthropic Leadership. The prize honors philanthropists who exemplify the ideals and principles that guided Mr. Simon’s giving, including personal responsibility, resourcefulness, volunteerism, scholarship, individual freedom, faith in God, and helping people to help themselves. CWSP's Fall 2020:
Supporting Students & Partners in New Ways
“Being able to work from home has allowed me to personalize my environment by lighting, temperature, and sound because I can work in a quiet place with no distractions. I can also take helpful breaks that contribute to my health and performance." - Ashley, 12th gr, Align Technology

Ashley and another 170+ students are braving the world of remote work with the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) this fall. As many readers may be experiencing themselves, remote work is not easy but our CWSP young professionals are trying to see the bright side by developing strong relationships with their supervisors and routines that work for them on their CWSP days. We are so proud that our students and incredibly committed Partners make Cristo Rey San José the largest remote work program in the Cristo Rey Network.

Students who are not currently matched to a CWSP Partner company utilize their CWSP days to enhance their professional skills through classes with our Young Professionals Institute (YPI). YPI students have the opportunity to work on technical skills, learn about entrepreneurship and business literacy and meet virtually with professional mentors from Silicon Valley companies and beyond. Mentors are volunteers (many new to CWSP and CRSJ) who have committed an hour a week to meet with students and help foster the types of relationships they would typically have with supervisors and coworkers at work.

There’s never been a better or more compelling time to get involved with the CWSP. Whether you are interested in learning more about becoming a CWSP Partner and hosting a student remotely, would like to volunteer as a business skills coaches, mentor or be a guest speaker with YPI or want to sponsor a student in a nonprofit placement, we’d love to hear from you - cwsp@cristoreysj.org.
