Ready to die for Taiwan?
Mark Thompson   Project On Government Oversight
EXCERPTS from POGO's The Bunker, April 12, 2023
War drums are getting louder. For 40 years, the U.S. tried to deter a Chinese move against the island by brandishing “strategic ambiguity” — resolutely refusing to declare if the U.S. military would join Taiwan in beating back a Chinese invasion. But President Biden has repeatedly said that the U.S. would come to Taiwan’s aid if China attacks. ...

... “If Washington policymakers are determined to defend Taiwan, they must be prepared to back their promises with Americans’ lives,” Doug Bandow of the Cato Institute wrote April 6. “Any conflict would be terrible at best and most likely catastrophic, setting East Asia aflame, triggering decades of strife, roiling the global economy, and endangering the U.S. homeland.”

EDITOR'S Commentary:
This troubling assessment by Mark Thompson from the Project On Government Oversight (POGO), raises a good question:  Will American soldiers be willing to die for Taiwan?

The US government appears to be willing to have both Ukraine and Taiwan completely destroyed by pretending the fight is for "democracy," but with the real goal to weaken or overthrow the Russian and Chinese governments.  (Ironically, the U.S. itself is not a real democracy. Big money is the primary governing factor for political office. The U.S. since post 1945 has become in reality an authoritarian oligarchy which thrives on the War Business.)

Anti-war protest and networking strategies are very important, but inadequate. Activists should seek a working relationship with the UN General Assembly where there are 188 nations denied voting rights. These nations may be open to joining forces with peace activists. World federalists such as myself (earthfederation.info) have explained that the UN Charter is obsolete and fatally flawed. It needs to be replaced if we are to have any hope to end perpetual war and to eliminate nuclear weapons. We must establish a democratic world federation.

The World Constitution & Parliament Association's  Constitution for the Federation of Earth (aka EARTH CONSTITUTION) would be ideal for peace-seeking nations to rally around, -- using the EARTH CONSTITUTION as a guide and authority to establish a "new UN" using Article 109-3 to launch Charter Review. The goal? A World Parliament and a new world judiciary system with enforcement. Good government.

Macron Says Europe Shouldn't Follow the U.S. on China

EXCERPTS

French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday that Europe should not follow the US and risk a confrontation with China over Taiwan as he was returning to France from a visit to Beijing, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a conversation with POLITICO, Macron discussed his desire for Europe to have “strategic autonomy” and to become a “third superpower,” which he said wouldn’t be able to happen if Europe is involved in a conflict over Taiwan. He said Europe faces a “great risk” if it “gets caught up in crises that are not ours, which prevents it from building its strategic autonomy.”

French leader puts business before politics during trip to Beijing that secured big new deals for Airbus and other national firms
French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent state visit to China has been sharply criticized for its failure to deliver progress on peace in Ukraine but perhaps that wasn’t truly atop Macron’s Beijing agenda.

The high-profile trip did, however, deliver agreements to expand Airbus’ and other French companies’ business in China – a significant development for France’s economy and its independent diplomacy and a notable setback for Boeing and US efforts to hamstring China.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, one of about 60 French executives who joined Macron’s entourage, signed an agreement with the Tianjin Free Trade Zone Investment Company and Aviation Industry Corporation of China to establish a second A320 assembly line at the Airbus factory in Tianjin. The signing ceremony, held on April 6, was witnessed by Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Africa ‘All Out,’ 54-0, Against Joining Biden’s Proxy War on Russia

EXCERPTS
When President Biden announced sanctions against Russia over their February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, he called it a battle of democracy over tyranny. He expected Africa to rally to the US lead.

Unsurprisingly, not one of Africa’s 54 countries has joined US sanctions against Russia. Many are neutral; some even supporting Russia’s war to prevent NATO’s eastward expansion to Russia’s borders and gain independence of Ukrainian Donbas from Kyiv aggression that has killed thousands of Ukrainians there (in Donbas).

Russia recently convened its Russia-Africa in a Multipolar World conference in which most African nations were represented. Not one condemned Russia’s invasion while some blamed the US and NATO for provoking it. South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa told his Parliament after extensive lobbying by US Secretary of State Tony Blinken, "The war could have been avoided if NATO had heeded the warnings from amongst its own leaders and officials over the years that its eastward expansion would lead to greater, not less, instability in the region."
Former Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah Is No Doubt Rolling in His Grave As AFRICOM Carries Out Military Training Exercises in Ghana
Jeremy Kuzmarov
In Nkrumah’s vision, Africa would be protected from Western imperialists and neo-colonialists by an all-African army that could police the continent’s own internal disputes.

Nkrumah’s 1965 book, Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism (London: Thomas Nelson & Sons Ltd., 1965), provided a sophisticated framework for understanding how Western capitalist interests were intent on penetrating and exploiting the African continent even after the European countries had relinquished their formal colonies.

This analysis is particularly relevant today where we see an intensified drive to exploit the African continent’s mineral wealth along with growing geo-economic competition between the U.S. and China—which is what lay behind the establishment of AFRICOM in 2007.

Psychopaths in control of U.S. foreign policy?
Human Destiny in Ukraine
EXCERPTS
To scale the pinnacles of corporate, political or military power in the United States requires certain rigid deficiencies of character, specifically the absence of compassion, decency and humanity.

In their personal lives, powerful individuals may possess these qualities, but as an elite class, they lack them utterly.

How else to explain the abandoned cruelty of U.S. foreign policy since 1945, the wars, with napalm and Agent Orange in Vietnam, depleted uranium and white phosphorus in Iraq, the massive bombing campaigns that destroyed 85 percent of all buildings in Korea, to say nothing of the deliberate destruction of Iraq and Vietnam, the millions upon millions of dead all over the planet, the regime changes, setting countless countries back, developmentally, decades, even centuries, and installing fascist rulers throughout what used to be called the Third World?

But these character deficiencies present a geopolitical problem. How does the rest of the world deal with, negotiate with such people, people whose gargantuan arrogance in the end understands only one thing – force? And it’s not a mere matter of changing the individuals.

These character deficiencies are self-perpetuating: there are always new defectives, deep ranks of them, to replace the ones who leave office and, worse, they never stop. Because of their deficiencies, they can’t conceive of conducting world affairs any other way.

The American system requires such character deficiencies at the top. ...

No one pauses to care whether they tarnished their integrity or ditched it entirely in the process. And since winning is everything, any lie, cheat or subterfuge will do, an attitude to which, sadly, our European allies have shown themselves easily susceptible: for instance, former German chancellor Angela Merkel and former French president Francois Hollande admitting that the Minsk Accords were all a ruse, to buy time to arm Ukraine so it could attack and reclaim the Donbass – who cares about the 14,000 murdered residents of that region?...
