Join us at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 27th at the Steve Cooper lodge to hear reports on this past Winter's programs and activities, plus updates on the Multi Use Trail Development Plan, new Club logo, and Ski Trail survey (see below). Board members will be on hand to collect your feedback and provide additional information. The Agenda and Financial reports are available for preview (see red button). Nominations for new Board Members closed April 20th. The lodge will be open from 11am - 4:00pm for storage waxing (final opportunity) either side of the meeting.

May & June | 2025

This Spring we have two types of mountain bike programs available for youth:

• Recreational & Development
• Competitive

The Rec & Development program runs Tuesdays from 6:00pm-7:15pm for 8-17 year olds. Note: this is open to all skill levels but is not a Learn to Ride program. The Competitive program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00pm-7:30pm for 11-17 year olds. Helmets mandatory for both programs. See red button for more information and registration. As of April 21st evening there were 7 places remaining in the rec program, and 10 places remaining in the competitive program - don't delay! If not an Annual WNSC member, then a Summer membership is required. Questions? - email Lori

Calling all XC skiers - we want to hear from you about our trails and grooming this past season - please complete our short survey here. The survey will officially close April 30th just after the Spring General Meeting. We have had 47 responses so far ... thanks to those who have submitted already!

April 1 forward | 2025

For those who don't hold an Annual Membership at WNSC but like to hit the trails sans snow, our summer membership is a great option. It runs April 1 - October 31st and includes all trail access. Alternatively you can purchase a day pass as needed. See button for details and pricing (same as 2024!).

Ever wanted to coach mountain biking?Here's a great first step! The certification is hosted by Alberta Bicycle Association and runs 9:00am - 5:00pm on Saturday May 10th at the Steve Cooper Lodge. Got questions? Email Lori

April | 2025

Our lovely old “Wapiti Nordic Chalet” at the north end of our trails was vandalized this past winter. This was the first significant incident in over 40 years and they left behind piles of garbage and a broken window. The mess has been tidied up and volunteers are planning to clean the floor and apply a new coat of paint to it in the near future. It will remain locked for the summer as we think about how to manage this facility in the future. In the

meantime if someone would like to enjoy a picnic inside this Chalet please contact

the Club via email and we will open it for you. The deck is a nice place to sit and enjoy a coffee or refreshing water break. Our trails (all part of Crown land recreational leases held by the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club, The Church

Camp Group and the Boy Scouts) are a wonderful location for summer hiking, walking your dog (be sure to pick up after your pet), biking or running. Please be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour, and leave no trace. Thank you!

May 13 | 2025

If you go out in the woods today ... there's a reasonable chance you could encounter a bear or other wildlife at Wapiti Nordic. Our trails parallel the river valley which is a wildlife corridor. Do you know what to do? Do you carry bear spray and know how to use it? If not, it's a great idea to take an official BearSmart course and learn how to be prepared to enjoy the great outdoors safely. The County of Grande Prairie is hosting a BearSmart workshop on May 13. See Info button. They are also holding an Adventure Smart session on May 31 with great info on how to prepare for hikes in remote areas such as our trails, or for multi day backcountry trips. Be prepared!

Winter | 2025-2026

Are you thinking about next season yet!? The Race Team always is and we start training in September! Do you have an athlete born in 2015 or later? We’re always looking for young athletes who are interested in spending their time exercising with the race team and maybe even trying their hand a race or two (local or provincial). We start dryland training officially in September and train through to the end of March growing and developing a love for the outdoors and movement for life through mountain biking, running and skiing. Then at the end of the season we like to celebrate everyone's hard work and dedication with a fun campout! Happy Spring!

Wapiti Nordic is proud to be the venue of choice for several events organized by other local Grande Prairie groups. These events pay a nominal fee to access our facilities and it helps to showcase our wonderful trails and terrain.
