Name of Business: The Les Cher Classical Ballet Academy
Point of Contact: Kelly Pasciuto
Length of time business has been operating: 1982
Description of Business:
The Les Cher Classical Ballet Academy provides students of all ages and abilities with an opportunity to learn and develop a strong understanding of classical ballet artistry and technique.
Your Business Mission Statement
Ballet is a fine art and requires a strong basic foundation. The Cecchetti Method is a graded system of classical ballet which takes the student from the first lesson to solo status. The Les Cher Classical Ballet Academy offers primary through professional level classes to establish and develop artistry as well as technique for those interested in studying classical ballet.
What’s Your Why?
Leslie Parreco & Cherry Dowsely began this business to share with their students a love for classical ballet after dancing together in the ballet company at Ballet Theatre of Maryland. In training with them to become a certified Cecchetti Council of America teacher, I transitioned into being the owner to be able to continue to share this love for classical ballet as well.
What sets your business apart from others?
Over the years, The Les Cher Classical Ballet Academy has become a place for dancers to gain a strong foundation in ballet, regardless of their goals for dancing. Those that want to become professionals can do so, we have had, and currently have, alumni dancing in various professional companies. Those that want to study for the joy learning this beautiful art form, while focusing on other areas of interest, are also able to do so.
What are some of the personal rewards that come from your business?
For both the founding directors and myself, sharing our love for classical ballet has always been the greatest reward. We are blessed to be able to say that since 2000, our teachers have all been able to study with Leslie and Cherry for their Cecchetti certification. Currently, we are over joyed to have students that studied with Leslie and Cherry not only returning to dancing, but bringing their children for classes too.
How long have you been a chamber member? This is our 1st year, since relocating from Upper Marlboro in August of 2020.
What benefits have you experienced with your chamber membership?
In this 1st year, I’m not exactly sure, but this is partly because in order to keep the studio open, I have to work another job. I currently teach 1st grade in addition to this, so I’m just not as available for participating in chamber events etc.
