Constructed Collages of Events
| Portland, Oregon, USA. Todd Elliott's sculptures are collages using graphic, motion and places. Here, the collages are shapes and images commonly seen in traffic, or any distant travel by road; where we see buildings, signs, trailers and vehicles of all types. These are constructed collages of events from his imagination. He has always been fascinated by shiny surfaces, like those on cars, gas station signs and glass, but discovered, these reflections are the sources for his imagination. A few forms have taken shape in his work; MXR, HAULRS, along with a newer relief format, THRU. | | | |

COLLAGE ON VIEW
Hannelore Baron and The Art of Assemblage
| At Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in New York, New York, USA through 23 March 2024. "Hannelore Baron" is a solo exhibition of collages, box assemblages, and monoprints dating from 1970 to 1986. Focusing on the artist’s singular visual language of signs, symbols, and ciphers, “Hannelore Baron” provides an in-depth look at her personal iconography and material sensibility. “The Art of Assemblage” is a group exhibition organized in homage to The Museum of Modern Art’s groundbreaking 1961 exhibition of the same name curated by William C. Seitz. Presenting a selection of works that mirror and expound upon Seitz’s medium-defining exhibition, the gallery’s iteration of “The Art of Assemblage” demonstrates the incisiveness and prescience of his thesis. | | | | |

April Showers Bring May Flowers - Exhibition and Workshop
|
11 May, 6PM-31 May, 6PM
Cuts and Paste Gallery
101 – 5663 Nora Bernard Street
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
The theme of the show is derived from the Thomas Tusser book, 100 Points of Husbandry written in 1557, in which the verse “Sweet April showers do spring May flowers” can be found. Artists were asked to consider its meaning in the creation of original collage work that provides commentary on the role of humans in being stewards of the resources available to us, and nurturing caretakers of the lands upon which we live. A workshop will be offered May 12 for those wishing to learn about making paper embedded with flower seeds for card.

Collage in Practice Workshop
| Early Deadline to Apply: Sunday, 31 March 2024. A four-week, virtual/online workshop with Kolaj Institute in April & May 2024. A working understanding of one’s practice is critical to one’s professional and artistic development. Intended as a clinic for working artists at any level, participants in the Collage in Practice Workshop will explore how they go about making art and putting it out into the world. How to make a living as an artist? How to get your work seen? How to get an exhibition? How to get reviewed? How to make a life for yourself as an artist? What does that even mean? These are some of the challenges artists face when they want to take their art practice to the next level. Participants will finish the workshop with a deeper understanding of their practice; a strong statement of practice that can be used to communicate with curators, editors, and art professionals; a portfolio of consistent artwork (or a plan to make one); and tools for growing or developing their practice. | | | |
