June 22, 2015: CSA Week 4 -- Snow Peas

Sunflower Logo
A Word from the Farmer

With blueberries coming in this week and apricots on the horizon, we have to give thanks for all the sweet treats this farm produces -- new gems every week. We got the fall squash in the ground right before the big rains this week, along with 2,000 sweet potato plants, with 2,000 more on the way. The beets look beautiful, and there's a lot of them. They'll go well with those big heads of magenta lettuce. In the greenhouse we've started cilantro, chives, and mint, which we'll send home in pots so you can replant them in your own garden.

CSA Week 4
Shares this week include:
  • bag of kale
  • head of lettuce
  • pint of snow peas
  • bundle of spring onions
  • 1/2 pint of blueberries
  • 2 garlic scapes
  • broccoli
If you're wondering what to do with another bag of that beautiful kale, you might try braising it with one of those lovely garlic scapes -- or with both of them. Though it takes up a lot of space when it's raw, that much kale will shrink to the size of a hearty side dish when you braise it. If you want to save the precious garlic scapes for something like pesto, those spring onions would make another great compliment to the kale.

"I was looking for a different veggie to go with roasted chicken the other night and I found this. It turned out amazing. The snow peas stayed nice and crispy and the onions added great flavor. Definitely something we will have again, not a single bite was left!"
