Hello Crosby Scholars Family,
Happy September, Class of 2028! Your September Newsletter includes many opportunities to engage with your community and work toward your college and career goals.
September and October Junior Academy dates are open for registration! College Fair season kicks off this month with a virtual fair, and the in-person Forsyth County College Fair is coming soon on October 1. Check out all this and more below!

Friday, September 4, 2026 - Serve with SPARK
- Where: Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101
- When: 4pm-6pm
- This is a partnership with Augsburg Lutheran Church on Fifth Street. We will be unloading a truck packed with hundreds of pounds of food and then organizing and filling weekend food bags for local middle school students. The church has a food outreach program and needs us to help make sure that bags are taken care of for weeks to come!

Monday, September 7, 2026 - Serve with SPARK
- Where: Sherwood Forest United Methodist Church, 5250 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27106
- When: 9am-11am
- You’ll work on a couple things this day! 1.) Organize and inventory for SPARK’s Cozy Bundle event coming up in December. You’ll sort through donated items: children’s pajamas, blankets and books. 2.) After the summer months, SPARK’s Pearl Room where donated items are stored is a bit chaotic. You’ll be working to organize the MANY things that are in this room that help us serve the community.

Junior year begins with Junior Academy! You can choose either Junior Academy: Explore My Options or Junior Academy: Create My Plan.

| | Forsyth County College Fair - October 1 | | |
Join us for the Forsyth County College Fair on October 1 at the Benton Convention Center! WS/FCS juniors can attend during the school day, with transportation provided by WS/FCS, as long as you have parent permission. See your school for permission form details.
Whether you attend during the day or during the evening portion of the fair (open to the public), be sure to stop by the Crosby Scholars table to check in and earn College Fair/Visit credit!
| | NACAC Virtual College Fairs | | |
NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) organizes virtual college fairs so students and families can learn about colleges from across the nation! Virtual college fairs are a great way to begin your college exploration. We recommend engaging with at least four colleges during a virtual fair.
Crosby Scholars does not receive attendance data from these events. If you attend a virtual college fair, remember to complete your College Fair/College Visit form in CrosbyConnect.

Celebrate Worthy Failures
"To build your resilience to failure and feel more confident putting yourself out there even when the outcome isn't guaranteed, celebrate yourself for your 'Worthy Failure of the Week'-- An action you took that's aligned with your values but didn't necessarily turn out in your favor.
We want to get into the habit of celebrating those actions because you were successful in acting according to your values and desires, even when you felt afraid. True failure would be to let those fears get in the way and take no action at all."

Junior Academy | Due 11/03/2026
Juniors are required to complete two (2) Crosby Scholars Academies: Junior Academy (fall requirement) and Think Like a Senior (spring requirement). Junior Academy takes place in the fall semester and is due November 3, 2026. We will send Junior Academy dates and details via email, and registrations will be available in CrosbyConnect. You can expect both virtual and in-person options.

Community Service | Due 4/01/2027
Each year, Crosby Scholars are required to complete at least two (2) hours of Community Service and submit the Community Service form in CrosbyConnect. Community Service hours for juniors are due April 1, 2027. Community service is volunteering that benefits the community. Often, community service is performed with a non-profit organization such as a school, Crosby Scholars, or other similar organizations. It can also be fulfilled through volunteer activities with churches, scouts, school clubs, civic organizations, or community engagement. See service ideas and oppprtunities on our website.

Think Like a Senior | Due 4/01/2027
Juniors are required to complete two (2) Crosby Scholars Academies: Junior Academy (fall requirement) and Think Like a Senior (spring requirement). Crosby Advising | Junior + Senior Years
Our signature One-to-One Advising Program begins in junior year and continues through senior year. Crosby Advising is just one of the many benefits of being a Crosby Scholar. This fall you will complete the required Advising Form, and in the spring you will begin meeting one-on-one with your Crosby Advisor. The Advising Form and Advising meetings are required. We will send more details when it is time to complete the Advisor Form. You will meet with your Crosby Advisor at least once every two months from the spring of your junior year through your senior year. Your Crosby Advisor will help you with everything from building your college list, the college admissions and enrollment process, and planning for life after high school.

College Fair/College Visit | Due Senior Year
The College Fair/College Visit requirement is due your senior year, but you can complete it junior year. Most students benefit from attending a college fair or visiting colleges before senior year begins. Complete the College Fair/College Visit requirement by attending one (1) college fair or visiting four (4) colleges (virtual fairs and visits count). Once you have attended a college fair or visited four (4) colleges, complete the College Fair/College Visit Form in CrosbyConnect. We will share college fair and college visit opportunities with you. We also encourage you to attend college fairs and visit colleges on your own.
| | Scholars agree to the Student Partnership Agreement when they enroll and Parents/Guardians agree to the Parent Partnership Agreement at the time of enrollment or when the student attends their first Crosby Scholars Academy. Being a Crosby Scholar includes being a positive member of your school community and avoiding out-of-school suspension. | |
