We are so glad to have you in the Crosby Scholars Class of 2024! Here's the October Newsletter with exciting opportunities to visit and interact with colleges, reminders for the month + season, and a scholarship opportunity this month!

Reminder! Requirements Due December 1

Don't forget - the Senior Academy and College Fair/College Visit requirements are due December 1st. You can check to see if you have completed these requirements in your Crosby Scholars Portal.

Here's how to complete these requirements:

Senior Academy Requirement - Attend or complete at least one (1) Senior Academy option.

College Fair/College Visit Requirement - Attend one (1) college fair or visit four (4) colleges either virtually or in-person. Submit the College Fair/Visit Form when you have attended a college fair or visited four (4) colleges.

WS/FCS CACRAO College Fair

See You This Thursday, October 5th!

WS/FCS Seniors will be bused to the College Fair by WS/FCS transportation from their home high school during the school day. Parent/guardian permission is required. Check with your high school if you have questions. The College Fair is then open to the public between 5:30-7:30 pm.

Registration is recommended here - you'll receive an individualized barcode for colleges to scan so that you can easily connect!

Stop by and see us to earn credit for your College Fair/Visit requirement! Crosby Scholars will be present at the College Fair, so be sure to stop by and see us! We'll scan your barcode to give you credit for attending - you won't need to submit the college fair form. Attending the in-person College Fair on October 5th will fulfill your College Fair/Visit requirement.

CFNC Free Application Week

Apply to Colleges for FREE | October 16th-20th

Many North Carolina schools are waiving their application fees from Oct. 16-20—IF you apply through CFNC.org! Start on CFNC.org’s Application Hub. Other schools may be accepting special fee waivers, too, through ACT, SAT or NACAC.

Scholarship Opportunity | Piedmont Opera

FREE Student Night at the Piedmont Opera for Crosby Scholars!

Piedmont Opera and AM Erectors are pleased to partner to offer Crosby Scholars FREE tickets to Student Night!

Call the Piedmont Opera at (336) 725-7101 to reserve your tickets today! Tickets are only available by calling the Box Office. Tickets for Crosby Scholars are FREE and must be reserved by October 16. The ticket price for chaperones is $15 and $5 for students who are not Crosby Scholars.

About the Opera:

$250 Cultural Awareness Scholarship Opportunity for Junior and Senior Crosby Scholars:

A drawing will be held for a $250 scholarship awarded to up to FOUR junior or senior Crosby Scholars who attend the performance. Crosby Scholars may enter the drawing before the performance or during in intermission by checking in with a Crosby Scholars staff member in the lobby. This scholarship must be applied toward the winner’s college education, and the recipient must graduate from the Crosby Scholars Program.

Senior Academy Options

Crosby On Campus | College Student Panel

Date: Monday, October 23rd

Time: 6:00-7:00 PM

Location: Zoom Webinar

Curious about what it's like to be a college student? Want to hear about college from Crosby Scholars Alumni? Join us for Crosby On Campus - a student panel webinar where you'll hear from current college students and get to ask questions about their college experiences.

Registration is required in the Crosby Scholars Portal. Seniors who attend will earn Senior Academy credit! Remember, all Seniors must complete at least one (1) Senior Academy by December 1st.

Essay Review Service

The Essay Review Service is a great Senior Academy option if you are currently writing your college essays and need to complete Senior Academy on your own schedule!

Have a draft of your college essay ready and want some feedback? Submit your essay to the Essay Review Service! One of our Essay Readers will review your essay and send you confidential feedback within one week. Use the feedback to strengthen your essay before submitting your college and scholarship applications!

Seniors who utilize the Essay Review Service will receive Senior Academy credit.

FREE to Visit WSSU and UNCG!

Applying to Winston-Salem State or UNC Greensboro?

Are you applying to Winston-Salem State University or the University of North Carolina at Greensboro? Visit them with Crosby Scholars on Monday, October 30th! Crosby Scholars will provide bus transportation, lunch, and snacks for the day.

Time: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM

Registration is required in the Crosby Scholars Portal. Parent/guardian permission is also required to attend- see the Portal for details. Attending this college visit complete your College Fair/College Visit requirement. Remember, all Seniors must complete the College Fair/College Visit requirement by December 1st.

Senior Program Expectations

Class of 2024 Crosby Scholars should...

Attend one (1) Senior Academy (now through December 1, 2023).
Complete the College Fair/Visit requirement (due December 1, 2023).
Complete five (5) hours of Community Service (due January 31, 2024).
Meet with your Crosby Scholars Advisor.

And continue to...

Agree to random drug-screening through the It’s My Call Program.
Fulfill terms of the Partnership Agreement, including avoiding out of school suspension.
Maintain enrollment in a Forsyth County public school or partnering charter school.
Maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible to apply for Last Dollar Grant funding in the Senior Year.
