JUNIOR YEAR EXPECTATIONS

JUNIOR ACADEMY

During the Fall semester, Crosby Scholars Juniors attend one (1) mandatory Junior Academy. The focus of Junior Academy is learning about the college application process and what Scholars should focus on their 11th grade year with the goal of attending a 2- or 4-year college.

THINK LIKE A SENIOR (TLS) PROGRAM

During the Spring semester, Crosby Scholars Juniors attend one (1) mandatory Think Like a Senior (TLS) program. The focus of TLS is getting ahead in the college application process.

Scholars will learn about and complete tasks (such as resumes, letters of recommendation, building a target list) in the spring that will help them be ahead for the fall of senior year.

SENIOR ADVISOR FORM

During Junior Academy and TLS, Crosby Scholars Juniors will learn more about the Crosby Scholars Senior Advising Program. Scholars (under the guidance of their parent/guardian) will be prompted to complete the Senior Advisor Form at Junior Academy.

COLLEGE FAIR/COLLEGE VISITS

Crosby Scholars must visit four (4) colleges and submit the College Fair/Visit form by their Senior year. Scholars may complete this requirement beginning in the 10th grade by visiting colleges individually or through a college fair.

More details on this requirement - including upcoming college fair dates - can be found in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal!

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Juniors and Seniors must complete five (5) total hours of Community Service between Junior & Senior year.

The community service deadline for current Juniors (11th grade students) is January 31, 2024.

  • This service should be done at a not-for-profit organization or program, and students should submit the online community service form to document their completed hours.
  • Students should not be paid, or receive a grade for their volunteer service.
  • Due to our nonprofit status, we cannot accept volunteer hours for working on campaigns of political candidates during the election season.
  • Crosby Scholars Program staff reserves the right to determine if a community service activity fulfills the community service requirement.

More information on this requirement can be found in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal. If you have questions about whether your community service idea meets the requirement for the Program, please contact [email protected].
