Crosscurrents weekly edition
This Sunday, we remember the baptism of Jesus by John in the Jordan River. As Jesus came out of the water, the heavens tore apart and a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased."
Thank you to Pastor Mark Griffith from St. Luke's Lutheran for sharing today's sermon in this service led by our Associate Pastor for Caring Ministries, Judy Brennan.

Practicing Acts of Christian Kindness
A little kindness can go a long way! Pastor Judy is once again organizing a Practicing Acts of Christian Kindness (PACK) event. This is an incredible opportunity to help spread thoughtfulness and cheer both within and outside the Cross of Christ community.
If you participate, you will receive two names from Pastor Judy at the beginning of February. You'll also be asked to identify a third person who is not a member of Cross of Christ - a neighbor, friend, relative, or a random person you encounter in the community.
Each person will receive one "gift" from you. It could be something you bake, something you write, a picture you draw, or an item you buy for $5 or less. You'll give/mail/deliver your gifts during the month of February and help brighten someone's day during these dark winter months.

WELCA Bible Study Guidance Available for January
Pastor Dave provides some Bible basics and addresses common questions like, do angels actually exists, are their different kinds of angels, what do angels do (and not do), do we become angels when we die, and what tunes do angels play on their harps (OK, he doesn't actually take on that last one).
Whether your Circle is meeting by Zoom or similar means this month, or you are studying on your own, this guide will help you make the most of your time in God's word.

Pastor Dave (Finally) Taking Some Vacation
Like with so much else in all our lives, Pastor Dave’s summer plans which included leading the Cross of Christ Tanzania Mission 2020 team to Africa and some connected vacation time had to be shelved. Pastor Dave has ably lead Cross of Christ thus far in our pandemic response – which required his full attention and also made taking any time off unreasonable to this point.
Now, however, Council is confident that plans and procedures are in place that will allow Pastor Dave to take some vacation time following Christmas. Pastor Dave is now out of the office until January 19. Upon his return in late January, he will be off-site for continuing education, returning to the office the week of January 25.
Plans have been made for recorded worship services during this time, and Associate Pastor for Caring Ministries Judy Brennan will be available to respond to pastoral emergencies in COVID-19 responsible ways. For non-pastoral office-related issues, contact Office Administrator Judy Giseburt. For all other issues, contact Congregational President Colin Walker.
Thank you, Pastor Dave, and blessings for a time of rest and restoration.

While the Cross of Christ office has been physically closed during the pandemic, we have kept “virtual” office hours, with Office Administrator Judy Giseburt available to answer phone calls and emails Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 2 pm. The office will be closed on Monday, January 18 in commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Remember: any campus visits must be arranged in advance. During Pastor Dave's vacation, please email Judy Giseburt and Colin Walker to coordinate campus visits.
