Thanks, all, for coming out to help us celebrate our 13th Birthday this past Saturday! We couldn't have asked for better weather, the food was delicious, the music was hopping and we all devoured cookies! (call Royal Empire Catering for your next catering need - they are FABULOUS! Find them on Facebook HERE)

Remember that each day this week, a raffle ticket number will be posted on the main page of our website. We'll keep them up for ONE more week and then the raffle ends, so don't wait to contact us if your number is posted and claim your $100 gift certificate!
The Pearl of Great Price ...

Dan Price's company, Gravity Payments, greases the wheels of commerce.

His story is a pearl of a tale, and of near biblical proportions. It's a story which even turns brother against brother.

Gravity Payments is the company we're now keeping, though their service is probably wholly ghostlike to you.

Every time you use a credit card, two or three intermediaries gather to keep the currency flowing. You may never have thought about it. It's a competitive field. Their services are not free, which is why some places offer a discount for cash. (We're customers, too. No, we don't want to use cash, either.)

Generally, merchants -- like us -- absorb the cost, figuring that your convenience makes up for the two or three percent it costs us. Consequently, we shop around for a better deal on such services regularly. It's especially nice, though, when the people we buy from are in the "good guy" category. In this case, the price is good and Price is good, too. Read more here.

Dan Price is dedicated to treating people right. Treating people right is a thing Hip Stitch aspires to also.

If treating people right is just our dusty hill to die on, well, that's just where our heads are. When time comes to shuffle off this mortal coil, we'll have no need hide behind cheap sunglasses.
In other news ...
Fiber Artist Judith Roderick was featured in last Sunday's Albuquerque Journal. If you saw it in the paper, there are additional photos in the on-line version. If that doesn't slake your thirst, her show, "Rainscapes" runs through August 1 at the Wild Hearts Gallery in Placitas.

SAQA Meetings will likely be resuming in person in November at Hip Stitch. We're glad to host them, provided we aren't up to Covid-19 variant Zeta or Omega or wherever this finally ends up. Watch for details.

Cindy Bruner is teaching at Ryan's Sew & Vac. We thank her for her contributions to Hip Stitch. She will be missed & we wish her well.
We have tweaked our Sunday hours, due to popular demand -- now open Sundays from 11 to 4.
Thanks again to all who are helping with Reut's sewing machine caravan.

She's headed back in November.

If you've got a sewing machine that needs a second life, bring it, working or not. Jeremi will set it to running. Reut will run it across the border. If you've got fabric you're no longer in love with, that's needed too.

Reut is asking that you hold your fabric donations for a bit so we can catch up on the intake.

If you're feeling especially generous or you don't have a machine, we'll stake EverSewn Sparrow 15s under cost for this endeavor. That's right, $100 will send a new machine to folks who really could use of it. (Or chip in what you can.) We'll cover the price difference plus the freight and help defray Reut's expenses, too.
Craft Night is back
4th Friday of the month

Coming in September, on the calendar SOON:
Garment Making
and more!

Says Valori Wells of her new collection: "Enchanted arose from my experience of the magical color, intricate designs, and generous people I discovered in and around Marrakech. The colors of the city are intense and vibrant, from the rugs to the spices, they can’t be ignored.”

Gingiber "Words to Live By"
The blocks on this panel measure about 11 by 11. The rest of the collection features poppies along with interesting geometrics and botanical prints.

If you (or somebody you know) needs a bit of inspiration or encouragement start right here.

Now that Reut's back, you may be able to make your own shibori fabric in one of her future classes.

In the meantime, we've got pre-cuts and yardage from the Tochi collection to tide you over. Not actually hand-dyed, but a suitable stand-in for many projects.

Just rolled into the shop ...
Smoking hot fabrics from multiple manufacturers. Don't Zig Zag. Head down here to start your next sewing Job. Check our array of Pot Holder kits; running yardage, too.

We've got wholes, halfs, quarters and eighths of this fresh crop.

Fabrics for Pre-order
Painted Soul
It's not explicitly stated, but this fabric collection -- Painted Soul -- sure seems to be an homage to the Painted Desert area.

Near Four Corners, the Painted Desert encompasses areas just to the west of us (but our side of the NM/AZ border is pretty nice, too!).

How beautiful an area is it? Enough that Arizona Highways magazine was blacklisted by the Soviet Union as being propaganda.

Rile up the Rooskies and make something classy with this fabric.

Don't leaf this one behind ...
Suitable for autumn themed projects, it's easy to fall for these leafy prints. More colors than we're showing here at the link. Cut small, it's just an interesting texture. At about the 5 x 5 scale shown here -- the actual leaf patterns come through. From P&B Textiles.

arriving in August.

It's beginning to look
a lot like Halloween ...
