March: Honesty
Honesty is truthfulness: loving the truth, telling the truth, and living truthfully in word and deed.

Tomorrow is the vernal equinox, which of course marks the arrival of spring. And though there is still ample snow on the ground and we may more commonly refer to the next month or two as "mud season" in the Upper Valley, the equinox signifies more daylight than night and the promise of warmer temperatures. And for those of us who work in schools, it also marks the final stretch of the school year when we do our best to cover the remaining portions of our curricula and focus efforts to make the learning stick through mastering material. This is also a time for the culmination of learning; students eagerly anticipate the chance to demonstrate what they've mastered and apply it to new situations. In short, it's an exciting time in the school year, and we look forward to all that the lengthening days allow us in the weeks and months ahead.

To Raise Awareness for Non-Violent Schools--Seventeen-Minute "Walk-Out"
We are very proud of our Middle School students for their meaningful participation in the national seventeen-minute "walk-out" to peacefully raise awareness for non-violent schools. Students chose one of three activities: a group walk to the bridge for moments of silent reflection and to drop stones with inspirational messages into the brook, followed by discussion about reaching out to isolated or lonely peers and getting help from adults when threats are seen or heard; letter writing to state and federal congresspersons to advocate for change regarding gun control as it relates to schools; quiet classroom activity. Well done, students!

Mr. Tenney Appearing in the Musical
1776 (3/31)
Former Crossroads history teacher Peter Tenney will be appearing this spring in the musical 1776, a drama based on the Continental Congress's debate leading up to the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence. Mr. Tenney will be playing Josiah Bartlett, delegate from New Hampshire. With less than two weeks to rehearse, Mr. Tenney confesses that he is grateful to have "mercifully few" lines, and he has a new-found level of respect for Crossroads own musical thespians, given all the great successes they have pulled off over the years. The link for purchasing tickets and all performance dates for 1776--opening on March 31 in the old Northern Stage space, the Briggs Opera House in White River Junction--can be found at this website.
Mr. Tenney would like to point out that there are some bawdy references in the dialog, but he feels it is suitable for Crossroads children from fourth grade (Let Freedom Ring veterans) through eighth grade.

Jump/Hoops for Heart Fundraiser 2018 (4/6)
Thank you for participating in this year's Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser! As of this year, we will begin a two-year rotation for this event. The Jump/Hoops for Heart fundraiser event will only happen on even years.
Students will soon come home with donation packets and a letter outlining this year's event. Our Jump/Hoops event will take place on April 6 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.
Once you have received your packets, please go online and register your student and get an instant prize! This is an easy and safe way to get donations. There is also an instant prize for the first $5 raised. After your student has raised their first $5, fill out the coupon on the top right corner of the consent form and have your student hand it to me during PE.
If you have any questions, you can email or call me at school. Have a great week!

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Tea (3/21)
The Crossroads Faculty and Staff Appreciation Tea will take place on Wednesday, March 21, from 2:15-3:15 pm. This is a very special event at Crossroads hosted by the eighth grade (but involves all grades) and honors our children's wonderful teachers and school staff. Please contact us if you would like to help with the following:
Tea
In an effort to make the event special and more feasible for families, the Faculty and Staff Appreciation Tea will be catered. Therefore, we will only need a small group of volunteers for setup and cleanup. We will also be requesting assistance with flower arrangements and decorations. Accordingly, the PA would be grateful for donations of any amount towards the catering cost. These donations can be placed in the blue envelope in the Klee entryway. Please refer to the Google doc for volunteer needs.
Appreciation Cards
The highlight of the event each year is the "thank you" cards that students make at home for their teachers, staff, advisors, and anyone else with whom they feel close. The teachers and
staff really appreciate these! The cards can include pictures, drawings, poems, or just a note to express your child's appreciation. The more personal the touch the better! This year, we are encouraging parents, as well as students, to write personal appreciation cards for faculty. Please make sure the teacher's name is written clearly on the front of the card. Each classroom will have a marked box in which to put the cards. On Tuesday, March 20, a class volunteer will collect and sort the cards into bags for each faculty and staff member. Each class will be provided with a box to use.
