Dr. Adam M. Robinson spoke with much heart and wisdom the night of Feb. 20 when he received the Martin Luther King Jr Peacemaker Award. He talked about the need for physical, mental, moral and spiritual healing of our homeless veterans.  He thinks deeply about this work, about learning, and the importance of education. With all the important positions he has held, we listened to a gracious, gentle, calm yet passionate man.   Those singing his praises that evening were Andrew Dahlburg, who works with Dr. Robinson, Kahu Ken Makuakane, pastor of Kawaiahaʻo Church, our MacArthur Flournoy, Chaplain at IHS, and our Kahu David Baumgart Turner.

WELCOME, MARTHA!

As part of our yearlong centennial celebration, Martha Mensendiek will be preaching this Sunday, March 12th. Her sermon is on Meeting at the Well in this day and age.   She will also talk about Bazaar Café and the evolving ministry there at Adult Education, 9 AM in Weaver Hall. Did you know that Martha and her brother Jeff are the only UCC missionaries in Japan? She is a professor of Social Work at Doshisha University and founded the Bazaar Café. We are very happy that she will be living in Hawai‘i when she is on sabbatical as Visiting Scholar at University of Hawai‘i.

Our big Homecoming Weekend, May 12-14, is just TWO MONTHS away! There is much to be done as we prepare to welcome back ministers and/or family members. We are inviting 200 attendees to our centennial luau. Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Let us know ASAP if YOU and your family plan to attend the luau. We want to make sure you have a seat that evening!

  • Help with the big mailings in a week or two – invitations, letters, fundraising brochure will be sent out to many members, friends and folks formerly connected to Crossroads. (Email Lee Takagi: ltakagi1@hawaiiantel.net) Will be on weekday mornings so retirees are perfectly suited for this job.

  • Help Ben Fairfield plan the music and program the night of the luau, May 13.

  • Join Lee T. and Jessica Fernandez-White who are weeding/pruning/beautifying this BIG campus every Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.

  • Put April 29 on your calendar as a big CAMPUS CLEANUP day in preparation for our Homecoming Weekend, May 12-14.

  • Volunteer to host/house/welcome our out-of-town guests that weekend. We’d like to coordinate our efforts here.

Our anniversary coordinator, Kathy Triolo, is amazing but she really needs our KOKUA! Please say YES!
