November 12 - Guest Preacher Rev. Mitzi Eilts

We extend our aloha and warm welcome to Rev. Mitzi Eilts, who will be in the pulpit this Sunday. Mitzi was a member of Crossroads in the 1980’s and later became national coordinator for the UCC Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns. While at Crossroads, she also sang with RYCE, our church’s women’s vocal ensemble. Mitzi currently lives in Mexico with her wife Paula.

November 19 - Adult Education (9:00AM in Ross Davis)

Peace Efforts Over the Decades

As we head towards the close of our 100th anniversary year, our adult education session on Nov. 19 (9 AM) will focus on (War and) Peace. We will touch on World War II, including many who served. What were the peace efforts?

Baby boomers who are now kupuna remember well the Vietnam War, and actions they took during the turbulent years of the 60s and early 70s. Crossroads is still remembered for the brave, controversial action we took in 1969, when sanctuary was provided AWOL military men refusing to be sent to Vietnam.

Did you know that Janet Gillmar came up with a great idea for a peace festival at Crossroads in 1986? Come listen to Janet, John Witeck (our 2018 MLK peacemaker recipient), Noel Kent, David Hagino, and others talk story about important actions and efforts of Crossroaders and folks connected to Crossroads, over the decades.

Stewardship Campaign - "Moving Forward with Faith"

Throughout November, Crossroaders will speak each Sunday about the importance of stewardship -- one’s time, talent, and treasure -- in sustaining our church. THIS Sunday, Nov. 12, we invite ALL MEMBERS and FRIENDS to walk around Weaver Hall and see the work of our four Mission Teams at the Mission Team Fair, held in conjunction with Second Sunday Lunch. There will also be beautiful handcrafted cards for sale to support the UCC Transition House, a shelter for women and children escaping abusive domestic relationships.

Stewardship letters and pledge cards were mailed out this week to members and friends. If you did not receive an envelope in the mail (do we have your current address?), extra stewardship packets are available. You may pick one up on Sunday or during the week from Kelly in the church office.

Kahu David's Sabbatical

Kahu is enjoying his last week of sabbatical and is presently visiting with son Micah and his wife, Greta, in Minnesota. He heads home on Nov. 13 and will be back at Crossroads preaching on Nov. 19, Thanksgiving Sunday. (This would be a great day to turn in your 2024 financial pledges and time and talent cards!) Kahu notes, “Sabbatical has been truly great; eager to both get home and to continue my/our journey.”
