Church of the Crossroads Calls

THE REV. JACOB POINDEXTER

As a Two-Year Designated Term Pastor and Teacher

This is the day that God has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118

This past Sunday, June 14, 2026, at a Special Congregational Meeting, the congregation voted in favor of calling Pastor Jacob with a nearly unanimous vote, using an anonymous balloting procedure for both the Cosmic Bamboo Hui and the in-the-sanctuary members. Pastor Jacob’s term begins on August 1, 2026, and ends on July 31, 2028, subject to further recommendations from a Search Committee constituted by the Coordinating Council. The Poindexters will reside in our parsonage.

A full house of in-person and online members worshipped together to hear Pastor Jacob preach and to attend the congregational meeting. Pastor Jacob gave a sermon, "In Dust We Plant Our Feet" based on Matthew 9:35-10:14, that was thoughtful and brought in aspects of his visits with the many people who came to meet him prior to Sunday’s service. The music and choir under the direction of Dr. Collin made joyful music. Pastor Jacob’s family, wife Krystal and children Clarice and Eli joined us in worship. Eli played Great Is the Lord , arr. by Mark Hayes, a beautiful piece on the piano, to end the service.

Kathy Triolo, our moderator, led the congregational meeting with confidence and assurance. She thanks the following for lending her their help and expertise: Kelly Garrett, Ellen Carson, Renita Lowe, Jeanne Roberts, Linda Green, Kaye Kroehler, Sam Choi, Dominic Chow, John Rhee, Bill and Judy Kern. She thanks the Congregation dearly for their patience, engagement, involvement, and love.

For some, Sunday was the first time meeting Pastor Jacob and his family. Many others met them during the week leading up to Sunday, both in-person and online, at the varied activities organized by the Search Team who, once again, deserves our deep gratitude: Becca, Earl, Jeanne, Libby, Deissery.

We also thank the Kokua Team (especially to Bill and Judy for filling in for Becca and Kathy T, who were otherwise quite busy), Kathy Maddux’s cooking team for a sustaining and delicious meal, and the nursery crew, led by Elizabeth Grossmann, who kept themselves and the children out of trouble.

WHAT’S ONE OF THE MANY THINGS THAT YOU LIKED ABOUT YOUR VISIT?

A QUICK MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JACOB

This was a full week, Crossroads! Full of events and new friends, and full of hopes and possibilities. My heart is full, too. Thank you for your generosity and hospitality.

I met most of you at least once and spent time with many of you multiple times. I wondered if I would be worn out with all the conversations and bustling events. Every day I woke up ready to go and eager to see who I would meet and anticipating what aligning of the Spirit would show up. Every day was a further affirmation that Church of the Crossroads is where I am called to be. On Sunday it became clear that you experienced the same affirmation.

I have more to say about what this week has meant to my family and what I believe we might be preparing for as a church. But for today, in the afterglow of such a beautiful week culminating on Sunday’s worship and celebration, let us receive this blessing and allow it to linger and belong to this moment. In the coming months we will set about the ongoing and expanding work of this church. But for today, I am taking a good nap — with a peaceful mind and a heart full to the brim and then some.

Mahalo nui loa, Crossroads,
