Thanks for the memories! Holiday Fun at Five

What a party! On the eve of December 11, we celebrated with over 160 of our friends at Holiday Fun at Five at The Publick House Historic Inn. Paige Hall was a glowing wonderland of treats and good cheer. This year's theme was Christmas movies and we indulged in taste sensations related to A Christmas Carol, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Nutcracker, and A Christmas Story (note the leg lamp which was won by a lucky guest!)

We are so grateful to our hosts, the amazing staff at The Publick House, our generous sponsor Cornerstone Bank, Woman in Business for combining their party with ours, everyone who donated a prize for the raffle and toys for the Center of Hope collection, and of course, all of our terrific guests. Thank you for sharing the spirit of the season with us! You made the night magical! See more photos here

Brown Bag Seminars Seek Presenters for 2020

The Chamber's Education Committee is currently planning our schedule of Brown Bag Seminars for the first half of 2020. Typically 1 hour long, these seminars are intended to attract intimate audiences of 5-30 people. Seminars are held at the Chamber office on the 4th Tuesday of the month at noon.

Presenting a Brown Bag Seminar is a great way to shine a spotlight on your business and the services you offer. You create the lesson plan, we do the rest including creating the invitations and promoting your seminar.

We are now planning for the months of February, March, April, May and June. If you are interested in sharing your expertise with your fellow Chamber Members while promoting yourself and your business, we would love to hear from you!

Just drop Alix a line with the topic you would like to present and your preferred month to get the ball rolling! Email Alix at [email protected]
Why Salt Therapy?
Contributed by Tina Brigitini of Crystalline Awaken
Salt Therapy
In July of 2018, I was in crisis with pneumonia, most likely as a result of a secondary infection of Lyme, babesia. Many trips to the ER over the course of 15 months, sometimes every two weeks, with extreme difficulty breathing.
It was frustrating and yet I was determined to get this under control. Back in August 2019, I decided to introduce Salt Therapy to our Boylston location. Of course, I was the most frequent client.
In September, I added a salt room to our newest location in Sturbridge as I believed salt therapy would help me tremendously. I had no idea how much.
On October 4th, I was once again heading to the ER, this time they extended my stay for a couple days. Antibiotics, nebulizers, and released.
I continued the salt room everyday, completed my round of antibiotics and I am elated to say that since October 4th I have used my inhaler only four times. This is incredible since I had been needing it several times a day along with the nebulizer every four hours for 16 months.
The gratitude I have today is not only for this therapy but also for the awesome friend that believed this therapy would benefit me greatly. She was right.
Breathing freely....... finally!
You can find more information about salt therapy here: http://bit.ly/2qv1GsG

New Year's Eve Fireplace Feast

Start with some hors d'oeuvres by the fireplace as you watch your prime rib roasting to perfection on a device dating back to 1700. Take a horse drawn sleigh/wagon ride through the back fields then chase the chill away with some nice, hot, mulled cider or wine. Relax, help make apple pie using an antique apple peeler and corer, or make seafood chowder in an antique iron cauldron right in the fieldstone fireplace.

Next, get ready for the main feast! Start off with a champagne toast to the New Year, then sit back for dinner. You'll be served your fireplace seafood chowder and prime rib* (and later you'll be offered seconds!). In addition, there will be bowls of fresh butternut squash, spinach pie and oven roasted potatoes. Don't fill up on the homemade rolls, even though they are quite delicious, because you'll want to save some room for the scrumptious deep dish apple pie with fresh whipped cream.

Later, it's time to go downstairs to the Chestnut Room where a DJ will be playing and you can dance right through the midnight hour! Wear a party hat and use those noisemakers! It's a great way to ring in the New Year!

* If prime rib doesn't tickle your fancy, salmon will be offered as well. Just order it when you purchase your tickets.

Visit the website for additional information.

Arrive at 6:30pm - Feast begins at 8:00pm
Adults (13 yrs and over) $85 | Kids (12 yrs and under) $60 | includes all taxes and gratuities.
ALL TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE.
The Fireplace Feast is an advanced ticket only dining event.

The Winter Solstice Starry Sky - A Family-Friendly Program: 6 p.m., Dec. 21, West Thompson Dam, Overlook Shelter, 162 W. Thompson Rd, North Grosvenor Dale, CT.

Join The Last Green Valley on the Solstice as we welcome in the winter months with a celebration of our Starry Sky. Lead Night Sky Rangers Kim and Geoff will point out the constellations and share constellation stories of the First Americans. We will also have a chance to view deep sky objects, such as the Dumbbell Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, and Owl Cluster, with telescopes. Also visible will be Venus, Uranus and Neptune, and the Ursids Meteor Shower will give us some shooting stars. The view should be great as the moon will not rise until late in the morning hours and the crisp winter night means little atmospheric disturbance.  Dress warmly - hat, mittens, multiple layers, warm socks and shoes/boots.  This is a family friendly event and a great way to celebrate the season together.

The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor - the last stretch of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C. The Last Green Valley, Inc. works for you in the National Heritage Corridor. We help you to care for it, enjoy it and pass it on.

Managed by Weathervane Enterprises, Inc., publisher of Journal of Antiques and Collectibles, the Show will feature over 60 hand-selected local and regional dealers covering 11,000 square feet with authentic, quality antiques and antique collectibles. This new Show replaces the now defunct Central Mass Antique Show at Sturbridge, which ran from 2014 until 2018 over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at The Host.

"This New Year's Day show provides a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase some of the best and most knowledgeable local and regional dealers of antique collectibles," says Maxine Carter-Lome, President of Weathervane Enterprises, Inc. and Publisher of the Journal of Antiques and Collectibles. "It's the perfect way to spend the day as these dealers will create spaces adorned with special finds that are sure to spark memories and inquiry."

The Exhibit Hall will be open on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 from 10am to 5pm, offering guests ample time to walk the floor and meet the dealers while enjoying special treats throughout the day in celebration of the New Year. In addition, The Host will offer a Concession Cafe outside the Exhibit Hall with breakfast and lunch options, and a Hospitality Table will provide great take-home information on future shows and antique publications.

$10 Admission, $8 online. Tickets on sale now at theantiquecollectiblesshow.com. For more information visit theantiquecollectiblesshow.com, Follow Us on Facebook @ AntiqueCollectiblesShow, or contact Maxine Carter-Lome directly at 508-347-1960 x402 and at  [email protected].
