A Note from the Principal...
Dear Parents,

Crossroads is very thankful to all of our parents and families that support us and we want to take this opportunity to send a big thank you to all who donated to our school food drive benefiting the Houston Food Bank. Due to the tremendous support and participation by all classrooms, we ended up crushing our total from last year and exceeded our goal for this year. Therefore, we are excited to announce that the entire school will enjoy a special lunch reward.

Last year we tried something new at Crossroads by serving a Thanksgiving Feast prepared by the students. The feast turned out great and everyone enjoyed it so much that we decided to make it a new tradition. This year the students and I wrote a little poem to give some insight behind the scenes of what the students do to make this event so successful.

Beans, potatoes, and bread,
Prepared to get us fed

Peel, snap, and knead,
 So many mouths to feed

Following directions and reading recipes,
All while sending invitations to families

Assembling ingredients all afternoon,
Everyone’s excited to eat very soon

We’re using our math skills to make this meal,
And we really hope you enjoy your fill

Measuring and mixing all through the day,
Dishes made with love, the Crossroads way

We give thanks for all that we have,
From, comics & music and even Mom & Dad

To cellphones and tablets and sweet pumpkin pie,
We are especially thankful you all could stop by!

Congratulations Ms. Azmae!

Crossroads School is happy to announce that Ms. Azmae has been given the title of Special Projects Manager in addition to her title of Teacher.

Over the last two years, Azmae has spent countless hours outside of school organizing fundraisers, attending networking functions, planning science experiments, scheduling special guests to visit the school and much much more. She has shown a unique talent and drive when it comes to special projects and outreach efforts on behalf of Crossroads. While her main role and responsibility will remain teaching in the classroom, we certainly appreciate all of her additional, outside efforts and the Leadership Team, along with the Board, felt it was appropriate to acknowledge her hard work with the Special Projects Manager title.

Please congratulate Ms. Azmae when you see her and tell her THANK YOU so much for all of her hard work!
Team Crossroads Event Information

We are so excited for another Team Crossroads event! Staff, students, and friends of Crossroads will be participating in a 5K on December 7th at 7am in Sugar Land. We will be using this platform going forward for all of our 'fitness' events. Our fundraiser goal for this event is $4,000; so far we've reached close to $1,000. 93% of the donations raised for the race will come directly back to the school.

If you would like to join Team Crossroads for the 5K, please register here: Join Team Crossroads.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Azmae.
As Seen On Campus - Our official butterfly release!
Over the last month, all of the students have learned about metamorphosis through the butterfly life cycle. Each student was given their own larva and watched its transformation to pupa and finally becoming an adult butterfly. This week, we released all the butterflies!
Ms. Gemma's After School Cooking Club

To celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Cooking Club kids created a warm and comforting Japanese ramen noodle soup to share with their fellow classmates and teachers. The kids painstakingly shredded carrots and chopped scallions, which they added to a miso broth they’d flavored with aromatic, minced ginger and garlic. They stirred in a variety of healthy vegetables, including fresh spinach (a class favorite), corn, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, and bean sprouts. You could taste the care and love the kids put into the soup with every delicious spoonful!
The Positivity Project - Gratitude

This week's positivity characteristic was gratitude. Gratitude means the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. We have talked this week about people, places, and things that students were grateful for. In social activities, the students made a collage out of magazines of things that they were grateful for. The collages will be hung just in time for our annual fall feast along with the student filled Gratitude Tree.

#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and after the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

#GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Gateway Academy Transition Fair - January 10, 2020 9am-12pm
The Gateway Academy Transition Fair is an annual event featuring programs throughout Texas and the U.S. that serve young adults with social and learning differences. Featured programs cater to students for whom college, adult independent living and/or vocational careers are attainable with the proper structure and support.

Participating programs serve high school graduates aged 18 and up with average to above average IQ. The programs represent educational options for experiential learners, such as trade schools, immersive adult life skills programs, vocational, and certificate courses.

In addition, our Transition Fair features community and 4 year colleges that support students with social and learning differences. Common learning differences addressed by these programs include dyslexia, AD/HD, autism, and mental health challenges.

Our Transition Fair is free but registration is required to attend! Everyone is welcome...educators, students and parents! If you are interested in attending, please contact Jackie Plesnicher.
