A Note from the Head of Social Development ...
Dear Crossroads Parents,

I want to send a heart-felt thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Open House last Thursday. We thought it was a very successful event and it was a pleasure to see all who came! Included in your handout from that evening was information about the Positivity Project. I would like to give you more information about what the Project is and how it will be incorporated into the school curriculum. Crossroads School received both a scholarship from The Positivity Project and a grant from an outside donor to help fully fund the implementation of this curriculum at our school. There are a myriad of resources available for teachers and students. This program is used in over 30 states and more than 600 schools around the country.

The Positivity Project was the brainchild of Dr. Chris Peterson in 2008. The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships and become their best selves. Their vision is to partner with schools across the country and equip educators with the training, strategy, and resources to teach their students positive psychology’s 24 character strengths.
Each week, we will cover one of these character strengths in social activities class and teachers will incorporate that strength in their classes as well. This week, we did an introduction to the Positivity Project with students and teachers. Next week, we will begin covering the first character strength, Teamwork. I am proud to be heading up this new collaboration with the staff and parents to help our students succeed and become their best selves!

Pool & Yearbook Party

This past weekend's weather was perfect for a weekend pool party and yearbook signing event.

If you are a Crossroads alumni and did not receive your yearbook, please contact the school office.
As Seen on Campus...

This week, Ms. Ayesha introduced the Positivity Project in all of her social skills classes. Part of the elementary school's lesson was to write down #OtherPeopleMatter on post it notes and go around the school and post those notes. Ms. Ayesha went a step further and had the students write notes to staff members that matter to them and then the students hand delivered the notes so they could see the receiver's reactions. When Ms. Ayesha's students returned back to class, one student said that they wanted to be a delivery person so they could give people packages and see their grateful expressions on their faces!
Crossroads Bikes to the Beach

On September 28th, Crossroads School, Inc. will have a team of students and teachers participate in "Bike to the Beach" ( ). This charity bike ride supports those with disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum by promoting awareness and raising funds. Each team member is raising money for the cause and we are looking for volunteers to support riders at the final rest stops and the finish line with refreshments.

In turn, the "Bike to the Beach" organization will be giving Crossroads a grant of $1,000 to support our student's recreational activities. While the full ride is from downtown Houston to Galveston Island, we will have students and teachers riding all distances, from 1 to 106 miles that day and are looking to grow our team as well.

If anyone would like to join Team Crossroads, or would like to support us by volunteering, please contact  Ms. Azmae Bhatti .
Ms. Gemma will return at the end of October to begin offering her highly popular Cooking After School Enrichment class. We are offering Cooking on both Tuesday or Wednesday. Each class requires a minimum of three participants.

To sign your student up for the Cooking enrichment, please e-mail  Ms. Julianne  at your earliest convenience and include which day, either Tuesday or Wednesday, you would like your student to attend. (Note - students may enroll in both days but the topic/recipes will be the same.)
