A Note from Acting Head of School...
Dear Parents,
Crossroads Staff welcomed our students back this week. After working all summer without kids on campus, it was a treat to have their smiling (and sweaty) faces running around. The enthusiasm was palpable.

We had a very busy summer. In addition to the massive clean out, the painting and repair projects and the general organization that occurred, something deeper was also happening. Our new Leadership Team (comprised of myself, Mitch Pengra, the Head of Social Development and Justin Adams, the Head of Academic Development) spend a great deal of time discussing the mission of the school and how to best implement that core mission and philosophy. I hope you take some time to read over the early pages of our Parent & Student Handbook. It spells out our intentions. This is the measure we will use to know if we are succeeding. Are we doing what we say we are doing? Have we done what we intended to do?

One revision involves the former "Points Sheet." We explored the benefits of the system and with the input of the entire faculty, have made revisions to utilize a new format that puts a greater focus on each student setting individual, incremental and achievable goals and giving students the tools and practice to self-access. We will share more about this in coming newsletters but you will be happy to know that the students are overwhelmingly pleased with the modifications.

Before I wish you a great weekend, I want to express my incredible pride in the whole Crossroads Staff team. Their dedication to our students and their enthusiasm for the year ahead is inspiring. I am in awe of their commitment to creating an emotionally safe and educationally sound environment for our kids. I look forward to sharing our success with you throughout the year.

Team Work During Staff Training...
Our wonderful staff participated in a Team Building exercise and a Beautification Project during Staff Training week. Using "Put In Cups" we added our name to the chain link fence on the Winsome side of the school where Middle & High School students enter the campus. Engaging in an unfamiliar activity gave staff an opportunity to remember what it feels like to try something new and to work together as a team with others who have different work styles. We compared this to how our students might feel in the classroom.

Monday, August 27th,
