A Note from Acting Head of School...
Dear Parents,
Parent Conferences have been taking place all week at Crossroads School. It is an essential ingredient in building a strong home-school partnership. The exchange of information between parents, other loved ones and the faculty will further our ability to educate our students and help them build the life skills necessary to live a productive and meaningful life. Communication is key to our success and we encourage parents to contact the staff throughout the year with questions, or, to share information about your child.

Speaking of the exchange of information...one of the instruments we use to help us understand your child's needs is the Psycho-educational Evaluation. You submitted a copy to the school when you enrolled but these exams should be kept up to date and students should be re-tested every three years. Ms. Julianne will soon contact you if your testing is (or will soon be) out-of-date. A psycho-educational evaluation assesses a student's cognitive (i.e. intellectual) abilities, academic achievement levels, information processing abilities, and general emotional and behavioral issues. These evaluations usually measure emotional/behavioral functioning and their impact on the child's academic success. They provide valuable insight and information to aide our staff in providing the most appropriate education for your child. (Let us know if you need help finding a provider for this service. We would be happy to give you a referral.)

Finally, on behalf of the entire staff and board, I want to thank our parents for the outpouring of positive feedback we have receive during Open House and Conference Week. We are dedicated to making this an incredible year for Crossroads students and we love it when we know you see the results of our commitment.

About the Teal Pumpkin Project
Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you have non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys. This simple act promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies or other conditions.

  1. Provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters
  2. Place a teal pumpkin in front of your home to indicate to passersby that you have non-food treats available
  3. Add your home to the Teal Pumpkin Project map
  4. Spread the word! Share the Teal Pumpkin Project with your friends and family

Toy Cars and a Slinky?
Do you have any small toy cars or an old slinky laying around the house? We could use them as part of a science lesson later this month. Drop them off in the school office or send them with your child if you have some to donate.
