Crossroads of Triumph: Steve's Story

This is Steve Nyakairo, who recently received support from Project SHARE. Project SHARE is a humanitarian program of Save One Life. SHARE donates factor, a crucial blood clotting medicine, to patients with bleeding disorders in developing countries, and to the hospitals and nonprofit organizations that support them. Irene Kalekye, the program manager of Jose Memorial Hemophilia Society, shares Steve's story:

Steve Nyakairo

"Steve Nyakairo battles hemophilia A and he is a 27 year old . Despite his challenge of severe bleeding , he pursued his dream of a hospitality career—a field demanding hands-on training that repeatedly caused potentially life-threatening bleeds.

Through Project Share's vital support, Steve received weekly Factor VIII deliveries that empowered him to fully engage in his studies. The frequent Parcels to the school made his educational journey possible, allowing him to safely complete his 2 year hospitality career.

Today, Steve stands at a crossroads of triumph—awaiting his 2025 graduation and already employed in his chosen field. 'Without access to Factor VIII,' Steve confides, 'I wouldn't just have lost my education—I might have lost everything.'

Your donation ensures students like Steve can pursue their dreams without choosing between education and survival."

Congratulations to Steve on his upcoming graduation and start of his career! We are so happy to see him succeed and to have been part of his journey.

even after they lose a sponsor.

You can help this adorable child and his family by giving them the gift of sponsorship. The funds will be used for basic necessities, medical treatment and transportation.

Climb Kilimanjaro with Save One Life:

A Testimonial From Wendie Chadd,

our Board President!

"Laurie asked me to climb Kilimanjaro with her to raise money and awareness of the disparity of treatment for those living with bleeding disorders in developing countries.

After working out the logistics and through incredible support from my family, my husband and I traveled with our Save One Life team to Africa in August of 2019.

Our visits with beneficiaries, attending the first gathering of Woman from the Kenya Bleeding Disorders community, spending 6 days climbing and summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania have changed my life forever. We even got to meet one of the beneficiaries that we still to this day sponsor monthly. Shortly after returning from Africa, I joined the Board of Directors.

Summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro knowing that we had raised a substantial amount of money and awareness for so many throughout the world was a true-life highlight!"

Thank you to Matthias Klass!

We would like to thank Matthias Klass, who raised over $1,000 for our global bleeding disorder camp program for his birthday. Instead of receiving presents, Matthias asked for donations to support camps in developing countries as his birthday gift. Matthias just turned 9 years old and wants to support his blood brothers and sisters to experience the spirit of camp, where they learn how to manage their condition, meet others facing similar challenges, and build community. We appreciate his kindness, generous heart and selflessness to help others. Matthias, we hope you had an amazing 9th birthday and wish you all the best this upcoming year! You have made a difference!

It Takes a Village: Get to Know our Board of Directors!

At Save One Life we have a dedicated board of directors who have helped to nurture and grow the organization's mission. As the saying goes, it takes a village. We would like you to meet the village behind Save One Life.

This month we are featuring Michelle Lee Kim.

Introducing Michelle Lee Kim

We are excited to announce that Michelle Lee Kim has joined the Board of Directors at Save One Life!

With her extensive experience, knowledge and passion for the bleeding disorder community, she will help to lead our organization into this next chapter. Michelle is a champion for the rare disease and bleeding disorder communities. As Executive Director of the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California (2015-2022), she launched over 10 programs, including leadership initiatives for youth, and earned the title of Businesswoman of the Year for Non-Profits in 2019. She also helped create the largest Spanish-speaking bleeding disorders conference, Familia de Sangre, and developed legal resources for patients, covering areas like school advocacy, trusts, and immigration.

Michelle co-authored the article “Lived experience experts: A name created by us for us”, advocating for the inclusion of patient and caregiver voices in research. Her personal commitment stems from her 20 years of caring for her daughter, who was diagnosed with five rare diseases, until her passing in March 2024.

Previously, Michelle worked as a mergers and acquisitions attorney at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and founded the Asylum Project. She also clerked for federal judges, including Hon. Evan J. Wallach. Recently, she transitioned to the entertainment industry as COO of Deep C Digital, a film distribution company. Michelle resides in Southern California with her husband and two sons, one of whom has severe hemophilia A. She enjoys pickleball, fishing, and traveling.

Please join us in welcoming Michelle to the Save One Life family as we continue our mission to empower those affected by bleeding disorders in developing countries. We are excited for this next chapter and believe Save One Life's mission and work will continue to grow through our dedicated board’s leadership.
