Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:7-8

“My little children, love one another!” There’s a tradition in the Church that these were the solitary words of the Apostle John at the end of his earthly life. The story goes that John was old and unable to walk. With limited strength, John would continually utter a solitary sentence: “My little children, love one another!” In this same season in his life, the “beloved disciple”—John—wrote the letter of I John. During the summer of ’21, we’ll be giving focused attention to this heartfelt message from one who walked closely with Jesus. Our theme verse is found in I John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us.” John calls us to know a primary love that begins in the heart of the Father.
In commenting on this reality, Father Henri Nouwen added these words,
“This sounds very simple and maybe even trite, but very few people know that they are loved without any conditions or limits. This unconditional and unlimited love is what John calls God’s first love" (In the Name of Jesus, p. 25).
Crosstown’s summer of ’21 message series will be a call to hear, know, and experience the abiding love of God! Once anchored in the “first love” of God, we can freshly hear the call and challenge of living out the “second love” of sharing God’s love in our human relationships. When we manage to hold and live into both “loves,” we are moving in the adventure of “Beloved Community!” -Pastor John Jacobi

What is the Vision?
The original plan from 2002 for the Sanctuary Renovation Project (SRP) included extending the platform along with accompanying carpentry changes and upgrading our lighting, sound, and video capabilities. The vision of the Sanctuary Renovation Committee is to make the sanctuary a place that can adapt to different uses (e. g. VBS, living nativity, stations of the cross, special programs) and changing worship styles (e. g. orchestras, special programs, children’s presentations). The last phase involves making the platform wheelchair-accessible, recarpeting the sanctuary, and replacing the pews with flexible seating. These changes promise to enhance our ministries from children to youth to adult. We hope you believe in this investment for our future and get involved in the final phase.

Anticipating a LARGE wave of refugees
Arrive Ministries is anticipating a large increase in refugees and they are preparing. In the last years Arrive Ministries has seen only 100 people annually come to the Twin Cities. In 2022 they are expecting that to more than triple to 350 people. Crosstown has helped to resettle a new family to Twin Cities before. Currently Arrive is in need of housing referrals, and we all know how tight the housing market is right now. This could be connections to landlords for more permanent housing or an offer of temporary housing for families in transition. Learn more about housing needs here. And keep praying about how you can prepare to welcome the refugee in need. Romans 12:13
