Installation for Pastor Mark

Pastor Mark will be installed this Sunday, April 26th during both worship services.

Quilts on Display

Quilts are located in the sanctuary through this Sunday, April 26th. You can take one (or more) home for at least a $50 donation to help purchase quilting supplies. After Sunday they will be taken to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse for shipment around the world, to Lutheran Social Service in MN for refugees, and North Memorial Hospital for long term patients, hospice, and children.

Guest Choir Next Sunday

On Sunday, May 3rd, the St. Barnabas Choir will not be singing. Instead, our guests will be from the Metropolitan Men’s Choir and they will sing at the 10:30am service.

Summer Worship Schedule

Once again, this summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day, we will have one combined worship service on Sundays at 9:30am.

The summer schedule begins Sunday, May 24th and ends Sunday, September 6th. We will return to 2 services beginning Sunday, September 13th.

Hospital Visitation

If you or someone you know will be hospitalized and would like a visit from a pastor, please reach out directly to the church office or one of the pastors. HIPAA confidentiality laws prohibit hospitals from sharing patient information.

The Prayer Chain

If you would like to participate in praying for our members and friends, please talk with Pastor Mark. If you would like to request prayer from our Prayer Chain, contact Brenda in the church office or talk with Pastor Mark. Please indicate if you would like your prayer request to be shared with the congregation, or if it is confidential.

2026-2027 Church Directory

We are in the process of updating the church directory to be ready for printing by mid-May. It's very important that we have the correct contact information for our members.

Please let us know if any of the following pertain to you:

·   You don’t have a picture in the directory and would like one added

·   You want your existing picture updated (kids are older, etc.)

·   You moved and have a new home address

·   You have a new email address

·   You have a new mobile phone number

·   You no longer have a landline phone

Changes and updates will be accepted no later than Friday, May 8th.

If you would like your picture taken, one of the council members can take it while at church or you can stop by the office during business hours M-F to have it taken. You can also email pictures to Brenda in the church office brenda@stbarnabaslutheran.org.

Seniors and Friends

Join us for Seniors and Friends on Tuesday, May 12th at 11:00am. We will start with worship, then share a meal together. You can sign up at the Welcome Center.

The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, May 6th so Don Collier can plan for food.

Church Gardeners Needed

It’s time to get back in the gardens. Julie Hanson leads a small group of volunteers that meet Wednesday mornings to maintain the back gardens. She’s looking for a few more volunteers and all levels of gardening experience are welcome. If Wednesdays don’t work, Julie can show you what needs to be done and you can work whenever it’s convenient for you. If you can only join us occasionally, that’s great too. Plan to start Wednesday, April 29th. If you have questions, please contact Julie at 612-636-5016 or hansonjuliem51@gmail.

Fascinating Fun Facts

  • Ancient Species: They are among the oldest living bird species, dating back 2.5 million years to the time of mammoths.

  • They mate for life and stay with their partners year-round.

  • Chicks (called colts) can leave the nest, walk, and swim within 8 hours of hatching.

  • They travel thousands of miles, with some populations migrating 10,000 miles to northern breeding grounds.

  • Their loud, rattling, bugling cry is caused by a long trachea (windpipe) that coils into their sternum.

  • They often rub mud on their feathers, turning their gray plumage a rusty red to blend in with their environment.

  • They have a wingspan of 6–7 feet.

  • They can live for over 37 years.
