Pastor Mark Out of Office
Dear Members of St. Barnabas,
Every year for the past 19 years I have attended a Continuing Education event in Wisconsin with 7 other pastors. This year, our event is from August 14-21 and will be centered on the “Theology of the Cross: From Paul to Luther to Today.” I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to attend this annual event. Thank you for allowing me this privilege to dive into a core pillar of our faith. Luther’s Theology of the Cross reminds us that God truly meets us where we are and does not look for us in worldly glory, power, or success. Instead, God reveals Himself in weakness, humility, and suffering. This powerful truth reassures us that God is actively present with us in our deepest heartaches and daily struggles. I look forward to bringing these insights back to our community upon my return. Thank you for investing in my learning and renewal. It is a true privilege to serve as your pastor.
While I am gone, Pastor Alex will be available should an emergency occur. Just call the church office and Brenda will get you in contact with her.

Thank You Volunteers!
We had a bit of a crisis last week with only having about 1 1/2 days to plan a large funeral. I am so grateful for our volunteers who don’t hesitate to lend a hand when needed. They really are the backbone of every event here at church. Please know that we could not do things like this without your hard and dedicated work. We are forever thankful for the time you give and you make an unforgettable difference to St. Barnabas.

If you or someone you know will be hospitalized and would like a visit from our pastor, please reach out to the church office or directly to Pastor Mark. HIPAA confidentiality laws prohibit hospitals from sharing patient information.

Prayer Shawls are made with prayers woven into each one. They are a tangible way to help people feel the prayers of the congregation and to experience God in a warm and loving way. IOCP Summer Food Drive Total
With the help of YOU, Qué Tal, Kimbanguist Church and the Boy Scouts, St. Barnabas collected 2,268 lbs of food for IOCP. That’s amazing! Thank you for your generosity for this very important cause. As always, we will still collect donations for IOCP year round. Items can be placed in the bins at the Donation Station located in the Narthex.

Minnesota Twins Lutheran Night Mass Choir
Orioles at Twins - Tuesday, August 11th
The Minnesota Twins are excited to announce our annual Lutheran Night at Target Field! This is your chance to sing the National Anthem on the field with other Lutheran congregations, youth groups and chapters. Lutheran Night at Target Field has been one of the largest group events associated with the Twins for over a decade!

• Game Time: 6:40 PM
• Arrive Early: 5:20 PM (for those participating in the Mass Choir, a ticket to the game is required)

Beaches, Bands and Brews ~ August 7th
The City of Plymouth is set to wrap up the free Summer Beach Series with the Beaches, Bands & Brews event 5:30pm-8:30pm at East Medicine Lake Park. The community is invited to spend an evening at the beach, playing yard games and enjoying live music by the Debbie Briggs band who are known for their
toe-tapping timeless sounds of Americana, classic country, western swing and blues. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event.

Kids Fest ~ August 20th
Kids Fest at the Hilde Performance Center features inflatables, vendor booths, activities and entertainment held on the Hilde stage and surrounding lawn. The event is free and open to the public from 5pm-8pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from food trucks at the event.

The Monarch Butterfly is the only two-way migratory butterfly in existence. These iconic butterflies travel 3,000 miles south from Canada and the northern U.S. to Mexico for winter then return for Spring. Once they have reached Mexico, they head up to the Sierra Madre Mountains. In Sacred Fir Trees, they congregate close together in their millions to create an incredible micro-climate. After winter has passed, the second phase of the butterfly migration takes place. The Monarchs travel north to balmy Texas to reproduce on milkweed plants. It may take up to four or five generations of butterflies to complete the entire round trip.
Fun Facts
- The generation that migrates lives up to 9 months, which is nine times longer than summer monarchs that live only 2 to 6 weeks.
- They flap their wings 5 to 12 times a second, much slower than other butterflies that flap their wings 20 times a second.
- They stand on plants to taste them using special sensors on their feet.
- Adults drink flower nectar using a long, straw-like mouth called a proboscis.
- The caterpillars eat milkweed, making the bugs taste bad and toxic to birds and other animals and they can devour a whole milkweed leaf in under five minutes
- Their brightly hued wings acts as a “warning sign” to deter hungry predators.
- A caterpillar can grow 2700 times it’s original weight. Pretty impressive considering that it is only in its caterpillar stage for 10 to 14 days!
- The Monarch is the state insect of Texas, Minnesota, Idaho, Illinois and Alabama. It’s also the state butterfly of Vermont and West Virginia.
