“Transitions” led by Pastor Alex George

Three Tuesday evenings: August 12, 19, and 26 at 6:30pm. Pastor Alex is a St. Barnabas member and chaplain at Children’s Hospital. Our church has been amid a sea of change since 2020 with the pandemic, pastoral and staffing changes, and those natural changes that happen within our own lives. Each of the three 60-minute sessions will include a topic discussion around grief and healing, opportunities to share, and a focus on ritual and prayer. All are welcome to participate. You can sign up at the Welcome Center.

Christian Education

We are excited to be gearing up for another year of programing! Sunday School and Confirmation is open for registration. If you do not get an email registration link from Bryce in the next week, please reach out to him. Sunday School will be studying the Bible story from worship each Sunday and Confirmation will be exploring what it means to be a Lutheran Christian. Please put September 7th on your calendar for our kick-off Sunday and Blessing of the Backpacks and Teachers!

Like Coffee?

Everyone enjoys having a treat and a cup of coffee with their friends on Sunday mornings, but we can’t offer this ministry of fellowship without people to host the coffee hour. While we could use more volunteers in lots of ministry areas, we’re especially in need of extra Coffee Hosts. If you’ve never volunteered in this area before, we will train you in everything you need to know. Sign up at the Welcome Center.

Hospital Visitation

If you or someone you know will be hospitalized and would like a visit from a pastor, please reach out directly to the church office or one of the pastors. HIPAA confidentiality laws prohibit hospitals from sharing patient information.

The Prayer Chain

If you would like to participate in praying for our members and friends, please talk with Pastor Tom. If you would like to request prayer from our Prayer Chain, contact Brenda in the church office or talk with Pastor Tom or our Pastoral Assistant Bryce. Please indicate if you would like your prayer request to be shared with the congregation, or if it is confidential. For those needing our prayers, any member of the congregation can request a prayer shawl for themselves, friends or family. Please contact Bonnie Welshons or Brenda in the church office to obtain a prayer shawl and the pamphlet that goes with it.

Other News & Church Activities

Dementia Care Support Group

Got a Minute??

Great, that's about all the time it will take to put a personal care kit together! On Sunday, July 27th, we will have 40 kits that need to be assembled after church. You will take a bath towel and fold up a 2 pack of soap, a toothbrush, comb and nail file in the towel and secure it with yarn. The completed kits will be packed in boxes and taken down to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse to be distributed where there is a need. Please join us in the Alcove, either before or after having your coffee and fellowship, to help assemble these kits.

OWLs Event

Join us in the ministry center on Tuesday, August 12th from 1pm-2:15pm to reminisce about growing up in the 1950’s & early 1960’s. Our guest Mike Henry is a former DJ who in the 1960's worked at a radio station in his college town. He will take us back to the birth of rock & roll and will play clips from over 100 of the biggest hit records today’s seniors grew up listening to including Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, the Platters, Roy Orbison and so many more. He will also tell stories about the songs, artists and the times while showing pictures on the big screen. This will be a very exciting event for all! Coffee and snacks will be provided. You can sign up at the Welcome Center. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, August 10th.

Cross+Generational Ministry

We had a great time jamming out on the back patio to our favorite Bible Camp Songs at our last event on July 9th! Big Thank You to Clint Faust for leading us. Our next Cross+Generational event will be on Wednesday, August 20th from 5:30pm-7pm. These monthly events will be continuing into the fall on Wednesday nights. Join us!

If you enjoy working in the garden or just being outside, we have an opportunity for you. Each Wednesday morning, weather permitting, a group of us tend the flower gardens at St. Barnabas. We are looking for more volunteers to lend a hand whenever you can join us, even if it’s one time or once per month.

No gardening experience necessary as we will guide you. For more info, contact Julie Hanson at 612-636-5016 or hansonjuliem51@gmail.com.

We’d love to have you join us.
