Other News & Church Activities

Seniors & Friends ~ Tuesday, March 12th

Join us for worship at 11am, followed by a meal together in the Ministry Center. There’s a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. The deadline to sign up is this Sunday.

After eating, Elana (teacher from Que Tal) will join us from 12:30-1:00 to give a Qigong Introductory class.

Experience 18-movement Qigong, a series of gentle movements which can be considered a type of “breathing meditation”.

What is Qigong? (pronounced “chee gong”)

Qigong refers to life energy work. Qi means “life force, energy” and “gong” means “work, transformation of”. Qigong is the transformation/work of vital life force energy. It is a Chinese modality characterized by gentle exercises and slow movements that can be combined with intention and mindfulness to cultivate the “qi” (energy).

Some Health Benefits

- improves circulation

- improves balance, coordination

- improves body awareness

- some movements aid breathing

- can help reduce stress and blood pressure

Elena Gandía has been practicing several types of qigong since 2011. She has practiced with Dr. Brian Grossman and studied under several other teachers, including Master Chunyi Lin from Spring Forest Qigong in Eden Prairie. She firmly believes in the benefits of Qigong to maintain health and well-being. Elana would like to offer these free classes to St. Barnabas on a weekly basis if we have enough people that are interested.

Taking Heart Iftar

Taking Heart is a long-running program coordinated by Minnesota Council of Churches and the Muslim American Society of Minnesota (MAS-MN) to bring Christians and members of other faith communities together with Muslims for food and conversation during Ramadan.

Ramadan is a blessed month of the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the “five pillars” of Islam and is performed to learn piety, self-restraint, compassion, and generosity. An iftar is a celebratory breaking of the fast, designed to bring the community together.

St. Barnabas members are invited to attend the iftar on Tuesday, March 19th at 5:30 PM at:

Northwest Islamic Community Center

3300 Plymouth Boulevard

Plymouth, MN 55447

If you would like to attend, sign up on the sheet in the Narthex by this Sunday, March 10th. Pastor Stephanie will send you follow-up information and instructions.

Morpheus is back with their 2024 concert benefiting Best Buddies in Minnesota at the Minneapolis Eagles Club! Listen and dance the night away as they perform hits from classic rock bands: Santana, The Eagles, Chicago, Doobie Brothers, and more! Morpheus is an 11-piece horn band that performs at no cost for charities across the Twin Cities metro. Best Buddies in Minnesota has partnered with the group since 2021, and the benefit concert is always a popular event each spring.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $20 cash. All proceeds benefit Best Buddies in Minnesota, a non-profit dedicated to ending the social, economic, and physical isolation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living.

Raffle tickets, food, and refreshments will be available for purchase at the event. Bring your family and friends – we can’t wait to see you there!

IOCP Volunteers Wanted!

On Saturday, March 30th from 10-noon, St. Barnabas is scheduled to volunteer at the IOCP in their thrift store area. The IOCP is our Gift of Love for March, and this volunteering is a way we can show our support of their programs, in addition to helping out financially. The group may be sorting through donations, pricing or tagging items, hanging clothes, etc. - whatever is needed on that day. If you are interested in joining the group, there is a sign up sheet on the credenza in the narthex, you can contact Brenda in the church office or contact Audrey Faust (612 298 7543).

The IOCP needs to have a count of how many volunteers are coming by March 16th, so sign up soon!. An added bonus to volunteering is that you will get an extra 30% off of any purchase you make while at the thrift store that morning. All proceeds from the thrift store go directly to programming for the clients of the IOCP. Come join us, make a difference, and have a good time!
