A Message from Pastor Mark

Dear St. Barnabas,

I cannot thank you enough for the incredibly warm welcome. All seven members of my family picked up on what my eldest daughter called your "authentic hospitality vibe"—she even hinted that she’d like to return! Thank you for making the entire Tiede clan feel so at home; it was truly an incredible day.

A very special thank you to Brett, Karl, Brenda, and Emma for being such excellent guides during my first two weeks. I am thrilled to begin this journey and see where the Holy Spirit leads us—discovering which new ministries we might launch, where we can breathe new life into existing ones, and who God will invite us to meet along the way.

I am honored to be your Lead Pastor and truly thrilled to serve you.

Gratefully,

Pastor Mark

Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly

Today and tomorrow (May 1-2), Pastor Mark, Colleen Lutz and Karen Ohm will be attending the 2026 MAS Assembly at Lord of Life in Ramsey under the theme "Unwavering".

The focal point for our gathering is Hebrews 10:23-25, which calls us to "hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds." Amidst the isolation and uncertainty in our world today, we are gathering with 135 other congregations to ground ourselves in faith and community. We look forward to seeing how the Holy Spirit "provokes" us toward love and good deeds as we set a course for the future.

Pastor Mark is looking forward to sharing more about their experience when they return!

Guest Choir

This Sunday, May 3rd, the Metropolitan Men’s Choir will be singing at the 10:30am service.

Summer Worship Schedule

One service only on Sundays at 9:30am starting Sunday, May 24th ending Sunday, September 6th.

We will return to two services beginning Sunday, September 13th.

New Front Door Access System

We have a new front and side door access system being installed with electronic locks, video intercoms, and designated access capabilities. This upgrade will allow for a more secure building and greater flexibility to manage access to the building during daily programs and after-hours events.

The system has remote locking and unlocking capabilities for the doors and the flexibility to allow multiple groups programable access and security across specific days and times. The ADA pushbutton access remains operational, and the new systems will be fully integrated into our current alarm capabilities.

We will provide access training to those affected and additional information once the system is completely installed at both door locations.

All currently scheduled groups will have access to the building at their assigned time, and the system will now auto-lock the doors during the last scheduled event of the day.

Qué Tal has partnered with St Barnabas to pay for 50% of the overall cost and we are excited for the new capabilities and security this access system will provide.

Hospital Visitation

If you or someone you know will be hospitalized and would like a visit from a pastor, please reach out directly to the church office or one of the pastors. HIPAA confidentiality laws prohibit hospitals from sharing patient information.

The Prayer Chain

If you would like to participate in praying for our members and friends, please talk with Pastor Mark. If you would like to request prayer from our Prayer Chain, contact Brenda in the church office or talk with Pastor Mark. Please indicate if you would like your prayer request to be shared with the congregation, or if it is confidential.

2026-2027 Church Directory

We are in the process of updating the church directory to be ready for printing by mid-May. It's very important that we have the correct contact information for our members. Now that we have a new pastor, it’s important to have pictures in the directory so that he’s able to get to know everyone’s faces.

Please let us know if any of the following pertain to you:

·   You don’t have a picture in the directory and would like one added

·   You want your existing picture updated (kids are older, etc.)

·   You moved and have a new home address

·   You have a new email address

·   You have a new mobile phone number

·   You no longer have a landline phone

Changes and updates will be accepted no later than Friday, May 8th.

If you would like your picture taken, stop by the office during business hours Monday-Friday from 9am-2:30pm. You can also email pictures to Brenda in the church office brenda@stbarnabaslutheran.org.

Church Gardeners Needed

Julie Hanson leads a small group of volunteers that meet Wednesday mornings to maintain the back gardens. She’s looking for a few more volunteers and all levels of gardening experience are welcome. If Wednesdays don’t work, Julie can show you what needs to be done and you can work whenever it’s convenient for you. If you can only join us occasionally, that’s great too. If you have questions, please contact Julie at 612-636-5016 or hansonjuliem51@gmail.
