Partner Congregation News

A Note from Pastor Hierald

Greetings beloved,

This morning, I came to the church to find that our healing garden project is underway. Where the grass is torn up, we are going to build a labyrinth for prayer and meditation. The unearthed vegetation will become nourishing compost for next spring’s native prairie garden. On a day where the future feels uprooted, the Spirit prepares a new path.

Today I acknowledge the knot in my stomach, the hurt in my heart. And I also profess my faith: God has placed us in each other’s lives and given us meaningful work to do. God has created a community of resilient survivors, people who understand what it means to live in uncertainty and who thrive against all odds. You are not alone; your St. Paul’s-San Pablo family is here for you with food, prayer, and defiant joy.

God has made a way for us, and even now St. Paul’s-San Pablo leaders will implement strategies anticipated for this election outcome. We’ll share more details in the coming weeks.

One thing we can share now: we have already raised a third of the money we need to install a shower, washing machine, and dryer in our building. When newly arrived neighbors show up at our door looking for community and care, we will be ready. Will you help us affirm the dignity of newly arrived immigrant neighbors? With a goal of $60,000, we only have $38,000 more to go.

“You gotta put one foot in front of the other and lead with love.” Melanie DeMore sang these words in the aftermath of the 2016 election, and we’ll keep singing them in the months to come. May we lead with Christ’s love, one step at a time.

In gratitude and love for all of you,

Pr. Hierald+

Redeemer Christmas Store

Our partners at Redeemer invite us to help make their Christmas store a success. This is a time on December 14th from 9:30-11 for kids to “go shopping” for Christmas gifts for family & friends and to experience the joy of giving!

They are looking for help on December 12th-14th setting up, helping run the store, and helping clean up. It's a fun, festive way to share Christmas joy with our partners and their neighbors. Follow this link to sign up.

You can also consider donating items to the store. Here are gift suggestions. Bring donations to the Donation Station by December 8th, and we'll deliver them for you!

Carols for Camp

Luther Park is hosting a Christmas Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday, December 14th, from 3pm-6pm, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This festive event will bring together our community to celebrate the holiday season while raising vital funds for Luther Park’s programs.

Join us at a table sponsored for St. Barnabas or sponsor your own and bring friends and family! E-mail Eric Boyd eric.hcr80@gmail.com or see the flyers in the Narthex for more information.

Gift of Love

November "Gift of Love"

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative

We believe in home. Our many faiths call us to act to create more equitable communities where all people have a home. Beacon is a non-profit collaborative of nearly 100 congregations of all faiths in Minnesota. As volunteers, we help advocate for new low-income housing and funding for buildings, services and rent support. Over 500,000 people in Minnesota are unable to afford their rent. Our church has been active in Beacon for nearly 10 years. It is part of the Justice and Outreach ministry at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church.

November Birthdays

Community Happenings

Wayzata High School Theatre Presents Footloose

Footloose is an upbeat, and high energy musical following the story of Ren McCormack as he moves from bustling Chicago to the small town of Bomont. He quickly learns that the town has strict laws introduced by the town’s pastor, Reverend Shaw. One of these laws even bans dancing which leads Ren, a guy who just can’t stand still, to rally his classmates to fight back. Along the way, he teams up with the pastor’s daughter, Ariel and his new best friend, Willard to create an inspiring musical with friendship, love, and determination. "Footloose" is a lively celebration of freedom and self-expression— a perfect show to get everyone involved!
