The Stewardship team is forming for this year’s funding appeal. We will need to set up a theme and schedule leading up to Stewardship Sunday on November 23rd. We will also update our stewardship materials and recruit speakers for temple talks.
We’ll have an interest meeting between services on Sunday, September 21st in the Ministry Center Alcove. If you can’t make it to the meeting or have questions, please contact Brett Turnquist at brett@turnquist.com. | | Call Process for Lead Pastor
Bishop Jen Nagel from the Minneapolis Area Synod will be with us next Wednesday, September 24th at 5:30pm to go over the Ministry Site Profile and answer any questions regarding next steps in the call process at St. Barnabas. This event is open to all members of the congregation. | | Call Committee Chosen!
The following members have agreed to participate as members of the Call Committee for St. Barnabas’ next Lead Pastor: Jessica Gaedke, Kirstin Bernau, Don Davidson, Cindy Dogan, Chuck Dake, and Eric Boyd. The call committee was chosen to best represent differing demographics of our congregation and will be installed during worship on Sunday, October 5th at both of our services. The council is very appreciative of their commitment and excited for this committee to continue in the transition process. | | | | Like Coffee?
Everyone enjoys having a treat and a cup of coffee with their friends on Sunday mornings, but we can’t offer this ministry of fellowship without people to host the coffee hour. While we could use more volunteers in lots of ministry areas, we’re especially in need of extra Coffee Hosts. If you’ve never volunteered in this area before, we will train you in everything you need to know. Sign up at the Welcome Center.  | | | | Hospital Visitation
If you or someone you know will be hospitalized and would like a visit from a pastor, please reach out directly to the church office or one of the pastors. HIPAA confidentiality laws prohibit hospitals from sharing patient information. | | | | The Prayer Chain

Please indicate if you would like your prayer request to be shared with the congregation, or if it is confidential. For those needing our prayers, any member of the congregation can request a prayer shawl for themselves, friends or family. Please contact Bonnie Welshons or Brenda in the church office to obtain a prayer shawl and the pamphlet that goes with it. | | | | Other News & Church Activities | | | |

Defend Federal Funding for Housing   Congress is now negotiating the 2026 housing budget and stakes are high. With a deadline of October 1st to create a unified budget, the House proposal includes major cuts to housing and homelessness programs. It also puts many other programs and services that make supportive housing effective, like counseling and job support, squarely in jeopardy. Meanwhile, the Emergency Housing Voucher program is on the verge of running dry. Without new funding, 60,000 households could lose assistance by the end of 2026, and with it, the stability they’ve worked so hard to rebuild. Let your voice be heard. Read Beacon's latest blog post and take action.  | | | | ACTION ALERT   HUD has withdrawn $5.2 million for Beacon to create new supportive housing, and we cannot be silent. Email Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Turner and your Member of Congress today to honor the CoC Builds awards to create needed homes. In August, Beacon was informed that its proposals had been selected for nearly $5.2 million to help create urgently needed supportive housing at Aster Commons in Hennepin County and Gladstone Crossing in Ramsey County. Weeks later, HUD reissued the program with dramatically different criteria and a compressed, one-week turnaround, effectively sidelining these projects and others nationwide. Under the new criteria, Beacon and similar developments are no longer eligible for these funds.     Unless we act, Beacon and similar organizations across the country will not receive these dollars to create homes for families and individuals who desperately need them in our communities.     CoC Builds is a targeted HUD program to add new permanent supportive housing (PSH) through construction, acquisition, or rehabilitation. HUD set aside $75 million nationally for this round. The initial awards announced to Congress in August represented the culmination of months of competitive processes run through local expert Continuum of Care (CoC) boards and good-faith collaboration between communities, HUD, and providers like Beacon. All applicants were chosen as critical to advancing local housing needs. HUD’s re-issue of the CoC Builds program narrowed eligible populations and introduced new requirements that tie access to federal dollars to alignment with Administration policy positions and would exclude proven models of permanent supportive housing. The reissue of this program undermines this entire process and results in fewer homes being created. Beacon has long been a partner in advancing evidence-based, bipartisan solutions to homelessness, including supportive housing. These approaches have enjoyed support across Republican and Democratic administrations because they save lives and taxpayer dollars. The reissue erodes decades of progress and risks politicizing a shared national priority: ensuring that every American has a safe place to call home.   Click Here to Take Action | | | | September "Gift of Love" Hennepin County Prison Chaplaincy    "Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them.” (NRSV Hebrews 13:3.)   Our Gift of Love donations in September will go to support Pastor Jeff Freeman and his work at the Hennepin County Adult Corrections facility through the Good News Jail & Prison Ministry. Good News Jail & Prison Ministry is the largest independent supplier of chaplains for jails and prisons worldwide, serving in 23 US states and territories and 25 countries around the world.
