A Word from the Pastor
It’s finally here--a new year.  I seriously doubt anyone is sad to see 2020 go.  We’re ready to trade the seemingly bad vibes of 2020 for a fresh start.

Many of us are looking to 2021 with great hopes and expectations for a better year.  We reckon that surely things will be better than last year.  They have to, right?

Well, I’ve never owned a crystal ball.  The closest I’ve ever come was a Magic 8 Ball I got for my birthday when I was 8.  Then again, after a couple of months, the only answer I could get out of it was, “Ask again later.” The truth is I can’t predict what lies ahead for us for 2021.  I hope for a better year in some of the same ways that you do, but I also want to remind us that the true source of our hope isn’t in better circumstances.  Our true source of hope is the Lord Himself.

We are reminded of this in Psalm 121.  This psalm is known as a Psalm of Ascent: pilgrims would sing this as they made their way up to the Temple in Jerusalem.  The journey was full of dangers, obstacles, and hardships.  This song asks the question, “I lift my eyes up to the mountains-–where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”  The rest of the psalm affirms the idea that the greatest hope for the pilgrim wasn’t that the journey would be easier than before, but that God was with them as He has always been.

Let that be a friendly reminder to us as we step into a new year.  We may find the journey into 2021 to be easier or as difficult as the year before, but either way, we know our hope isn’t in the journey but rather the Lord who “will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber.”

Help Us Find Our Sheep
Throughout December
The sheep have scattered all over Midlothian and are hidden in 10 stores! Grab a Trail Card and head out on the Sheep Trail to help us find the TEN LOST SHEEP and TWO CAMELS. But do it by THIS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31!

The Trail card can be downloaded here or picked up at participating stores. We ask that kids are always accompanied by an adult while on the Sheep Trail. When you find all the sheep, turn your completed Trail Card in at FUMC Midlothian. When the Trail is over, we'll have a drawing for a prize from our fabulous stores! For plenty of Sheep Trail fun, follow us on Facebook at Creation Kids Children's Ministry or follow our Instagram account, creationkidscm.
