A Word from the Pastor
Since we started gathering back in-person, we have begun to reintroduce both existing and new ministries.  There is and has been a desire for normal again. The question now is what is the next step for our church? The Administrative Council met this past week to consider our next step. The aim was to provide a clear path for the return of many of our ministries and to address our practice of COVID precautions.

Adult Sunday school classes who wish to begin meeting will be free to do so beginning May 30th. Over the past year, some of those classrooms have gathered items. We will use the next few weeks to organize the rooms so they will be ready to meet in on Sunday, May 30th

Children and Youth Sunday school classes will resume on August 8th. Our primary goal for Children’s ministry has been to get Godly Play and summer children’s church going. We will be ready to incorporate Sunday school in August.

The Administrative Council considered the dropping number of cases and hospitalizations due to COVID, the rising number of people being vaccinated, and the accessibility of vaccinations in making this decision.  Also, several local health professionals expect north Texas to be at or near herd immunity by mid-June. We felt this was reason enough to no longer require masks beginning Sunday, June 20th. Masks will be welcome, and we invite people to use whatever practices they choose to make themselves feel most comfortable. They will just no longer be required.  We will also encourage social distancing, but we will no longer have seating marked off.

This time frame will allow our staff and volunteers who would like to and have not been able to yet to get fully vaccinated. It will also allow time for everyone to adjust to the new practices.

Now that I have laid out the plan, I want to say a word to us as a church. We need to be aware of our neighbor in this season. From the beginning of COVID, we have asked one another how we can love our neighbors. We have done our best to adopt practices that allow us to live into this calling. We must continue to be diligent about loving one another, realizing people will have different comfort levels with these changes.

In Romans 14, Paul addresses the different beliefs regarding eating unclean food. Some Jews couldn’t bring themselves to do it, while the Gentiles did so freely. Paul says in Romans 14:19, “Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” In Romans 15:2-3, he adds, “Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up (meaning the neighbor). For even Christ did not live to please Himself.” Paul’s words must guide us as we continue to walk through this season together.
