A Word from the Pastor
In June 2010, I was kneeling at the altar at First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth when I felt the weight of Bishop Lowry’s hand press against my head. In the moments that followed, he prayed and ordained me as an elder sent to minister to the local church in the name of Christ. While I cannot remember all that he said, I will never forget the weight of that moment.

I bring that up because this Sunday evening, Dr. April Fehler will kneel at a similar altar where she will be ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church. She will feel the weight of the call to guide and minister to Christ’s Body, the church. It will be an unforgettable experience for her.

In case you’re unaware, it’s a long road to get to that moment. It begins with a call to ministry. That decision is followed by years of seminary, service in the local church, and negotiating the United Methodist process for ordination. It is indeed a journey, full of twists and turns, ups and downs.

For April, God’s call on her life took her out of a profession in which she had a promising career. She channeled her energy into seminary and service in the local church. I don’t have to tell you about the great things that God has accomplished through her ministry; you’ve been experiencing it for the past three years.

April is such a blessing to our church. She ministers out of a wealth of love for Jesus and His church. She spends herself selflessly. She seeks to lift others up when they are down. She provides a listening ear for the worst of our problems. April is a gifted pastor and a wonderful partner in ministry.

I know I speak for the entire church when I say that we are truly blessed to have her.
That’s why I want you to be aware of the opportunity to celebrate April and this amazing moment in her life. On Sunday night, the Ordination Service will be broadcast online. The service will be from 4:00-6:00 PM and can be found using this link:

Weekly Prayer Hour
We recognize that these are tough times. In such seasons, it's important to seek support. Galatians 6:2 says, "Carry each other's burdens and thus fulfill the law of Christ." The church staff wants to help shoulder some of your burdens by offering a time to pray with you. On each Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 PM, a couple of the staff will be outside on the George Hopper side of the church parking lot. Just pull up in your car and we can have prayer together.
