A Word from the Pastor
This past Sunday we highlighted the great work being accomplished by our Food 4 Kids ministry. This ministry began seven years ago when the Upper Room Sunday school class recognized the food shortage of some local students. They stepped in to help meet the need, and since then, our church has been directly responsible for sponsoring nearly a dozen local schools and hundreds and hundreds of students.

On Sunday, Sean Byars, the Expansion and Community Involvement Coordinator, shared his experience of seeing firsthand the impact this ministry has on the students. He was able to be present at our 11:00 AM service where he said, “You are making a tremendous difference in the lives of these students.”

If you’re looking for a way to get involved, there are a couple of ways you can help this program continue to meet the growing needs in our community. The first is you can give a financial gift to support the ministry. It costs $27 per month to sponsor a student, or you can make a one-time gift. Simply make a note on your check or online gift for Food4Kids to help fund the purchase of food.

Another way to help is to offer your time. This program serves as many as 120 students and requires many people to make it happen. We could use help specifically with separating the food and packing it. On Wednesdays, a group gathers at the Family Life Center at 3:00 PM to separate food. At 5:00 PM, another group comes to pack the bags. We would love for you to join us for either opportunity. The food is delivered to the schools on Fridays and more drivers are needed. If you would like info on being a driver, contact Steve Wilson at DRIVER.

Last, but certainly not least, you can pray for the ministry. Pray that we could reach as far and wide as possible, not missing any students who are in need. Pray for the students we are serving. Pray that the food would not only nourish their bodies but their souls and that they would know that they are loved by God.

Food4Kids will begin feeding students again this week. If you want to help, show up on Wednesday afternoon, send in a financial gift, and/or pray. Let us remember Jesus’ words to the faithful in Matthew 25. When He thanks them for feeding Him when He was hungry, they ask, “When did we see You ungry?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.”

October will be here before we know it! Lord's Acre is an annual church wide event and celebration that includes a Silent Auction (8 to 10 AM), followed by a Live Auction (10:30 AM to noon), a Country Store and culminating with a Turkey Lunch at 12 PM outside. It's fun for the whole family! Funds raised go towards ministries and special needs of the church. Please stay tuned for more details, as some things will look different than years past.
But, We Need Your Help
As October is quickly approaching, we need items for both the Silent and Live Auctions. We ask that you please think quality over quantity when assessing your contributions, as space is limited. We are not able to accept donations of large furniture. If you have something to donate, call Laurie Lundberg at 972-877-8838 and leave a message. Donation drop-off and other event details will be announced at a later date.
Calling all Crafters and Home Bakers
We also need to fill our Lord's Acre Country Store with beautiful creations and delicious treats! We would love your homemade donations for the Lord's Acre Country Store. Baked goods, savory mixes, seasonal decor and more are big hits each year. So share your talents, whatever they may be. If you have ideas or questions, please feel free to contact Cheryl Weadon
Saturday, October 9th
This year, our Lord's Acre Garage Sale is combining with our Annual Garage Sale the week after Lord's Acre, to allow for more space and volunteers. So if you've been decluttering and saving those treasures for the garage sale, it's almost time! If not, now is a great time to declutter and know that your donations will help support ministries of the church. More details coming soon!
